'NBA Forever' Video: Could It Be the Best NBA Promotional Video Ever?
The “NBA Forever” video is sheer perfection. Never in my life have I seen a promotional video for any sport that is so captivating. I haven't had much to do over the last week, so that video (which I watched about 50 times) has been the most exciting two minutes of my life in quite awhile.
Forever. I think it’s quite fitting that the geniuses at TNT who suggested the slogan for this video chose the phrase “NBA Forever.” This is specifically for the reason that the NBA didn’t look like it would be forever as recently as last month.
I guess the network’s promotional crew (or whoever was in charge of making this video) figured they had to create something epic for the fans at home after nearly 150 days of turmoil that was the 2011 NBA lockout. And they very well did.
It’s nearly impossible to pick which part is my favorite, but I have a couple.
Past and present double-double machines, Jerry Lucas and Kevin Love, fighting for low-post position with Bill Bradley in the background is nothing short of spectacular. And Steve Nash embracing the almost mystical Pete Maravich is seriously awesome.
But the best one has got to be Spike Lee heckling Bill Russell from his perennial court-side seats at Madison Square Garden.
I don’t always listen to Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors, but when I do, I listen while watching the “NBA Forever” promo. Where else do you get to watch Blake Griffin dunk on Hakeem “The Dream?” You’d be hard pressed to witness Amar’e Stoudemire and Patrick Ewing chest bump anywhere else.
I feel like I could go to war after watching this. And trust me that means a lot seeing as I don’t consider myself a warring person. But this is about as jacked up as I have gotten from a two-minute video since I saw the trailer for the movie 300.
Can you imagine Derrick Rose playing alongside MJ, Pippen, Horace Grant and Bill Cartwright? Yeah, me either. It just would not be fair.
A Dirk Nowitzki versus Larry Bird one-on-one game might very well be the most tactical and precise shooting display ever. Wilt Chamberlain may be the only player who could stuff Dwight Howard like that and Jerry West would absolutely roast Paul Pierce in my opinion.
What I’m getting at is that this NBA season intro won’t just be one that is forgotten in time. I’m going to show my kids this video. I’m going to put special instructions in my will that my grandchildren are to be shown this video before my children are given any of my assets. Not that I’ll have much to leave them anyway.
I could go on and on about every part of the “NBA Forever” video, but I’ll let you formulate your own opinion.
I might be overstating the gravity of this video just a bit, but when I find myself staring at my computer screen, beaming at doctored NBA highlights, I don’t see anything to do other than write about it.
If you haven’t laid eyes upon this montage of greatness yet, I strongly advise you to check out the link.
