WWE Is Setting CM Punk Up to Fail as Heavyweight Champion
The Straight Edge Superstar has enemies backstage, and they're about to win the battle.
In case you haven't heard, CM Punk is being blamed for the company's recent struggles.
With his brutally honest approach to life, it's easy to understand why Punk would have enemies backstage. The environment in WWE for years has been very corporate. It's basically a bunch of people who tip toe around Vince McMahon and agree with everything that he says. Punk isn't someone to abide by those rules.

When Punk was coming up through the ECW brand, many were predicting big things for him. However, the push did not come immediately. It was later discovered that there were many detractors backstage that made sure it didn't happen.
Of course, you can only hold someone that talented down for so long. Punk eventually made his way to the top of the company. He currently reigns as the WWE Heavyweight Champion, a designation which means that he's the centerpiece of the entire company.
For some strange reason, WWE has this tendency to blame the centerpiece for everything. When things are good, he gets the credit. He gets the blame when things go badly. Eddie Guerrero was a victim of this, as he experienced tremendous pressure because numbers slumped a little bit when he was the champion.
Now, the pressure is on Punk. WWE has been slumping terribly in the ratings over the last few weeks. Fingers are being pointed squarely at the Chicago native. Some even tried to get the title off of him at the Tables, Ladders and Chairs pay-per-view.
If the next champion (likely to be John Cena, since McMahon always turns to his favorite performer) brings the numbers up a bit, then Punk is going to be viewed as the guy that couldn't get it done. Once you're given that label, it's an uphill climb to get another chance.
Punk is being set up to fail.
