The NHL has been on almost every major sports network you can think of today, from ABC, to ESPN, to Fox, just to name a few. For now, the NHL's home will be Versus and NBC until Versus becomes a 24 hour sports network like ESPN.
With all these channels showing the NHL, there of course is a bunch of song intros to the game. Here are the best and worst.
The NHL was on ABC from 1999 until the final year before the lockout in 2004. This theme sounds like an opening for an unimportant Olympic event. Like handball.
I actually like this theme that Versus put on the NHL. I rank it sixth only because they used to be OLN (Outdoor Life Network). Other than that, this is a good intro song.
When you listen to it, you can just hear Doc saying the city and then the star player of the team.
This is a cool throwback theme for the NHL. It is now the theme for TSN, but it used to be the old Hockey Night in Canada intro theme.
The NHL was on FOX from 1995 to 1999. The best part about the intro is you can tell it's straight from the 1990s. The NHL still has plenty of teams that use FSN (Fox Sports Net) to broadcast their games. It just has a more modified sound to it now.
This is a great intro for the premiere games in Canada on CBC. It has a very heroic sound to it, which is perfect for the intro, with all the Canadian heroes in it.
The best sports intro of all time.
