Jerry Sandusky Interview: Words on Rock Center Will Haunt Penn State Forever
If recent allegations are true, Jerry Sandusky ruined countless lives. He then decided to rub in the salt for good measure as he took to Rock Center on Monday Night.
The mood of the interview between Jerry Sandusky and Bob Costas was creepy, dark and unsettling. The various questions that sprang up in my mind were no doubt shared by millions.
What was this monster thinking in taking to the national stage with a borderline admission? How evil can one man be? Lastly, how could Penn State allow this stuff to happen?
That last question is what we will examine here. As Sandusky used moments to determine the question "Are you sexually attracted to young boys?" The world had to be making the same connection that I was at the time. This monster was walking the hall of Penn State unabated.
It is important not to condemn the whole institution. We must forge ahead with the knowledge that only a few must have had a command of what was going on.
Even with that being the case, the Nittany Lions have a new face at the moment. When you closed your eyes and thought of Penn State, you must have thought of Joe Paterno running on the field or being hoisted in victory.
Now that image is far more different. When I close my eyes I see and hear evil. One day, I will have a different emotional tie to Penn State, but that is impossible to do when you hear Sandusky speak in the Rock Center interview.
At one point, he is asked if he is sexually attracted to boys. He actually has trouble answering something a normal person would know the answer to immediately.
"Am I sexually attracted to young boys? Sexually attracted. No. I enjoy young people. I love to be around them. But no, I'm not sexually attracted to young boys.
"
With that, a monster become even more creepy. The face we have feared now has a voice with a memorable quote that will haunt your dreams.
The alleged victims are of course the only ones that matter here. But you can't help but feel for those that helped build the Penn State name into an honorable one, only to see it struck down by one man and his wicked appetites.
