The NHL has a lot of intelligent coaches whose smarts really help their teams flourish each season, and some of them look the part.

What makes a coach look nerdy? Well, having a combination of nice suits, classy glasses and perhaps the overall demeanor and general look of a professor or businessman.

Let's take a look at the five nerdiest coaches in the NHL today.

Barry Trotz

Nashville Predators coach Barry Trotz is one of the finest coaches in hockey, but if you didn't know that he's a coach, you might think that he's a businessman or professor.

Dan Bylsma

Just four months after taking over the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2009 he led the team to a Stanley Cup championship over the Detroit Red Wings.

He clearly didn't need long to figure out the winning formula in Pittsburgh.

Paul Maclean

Paul Maclean's mustache, stylish eye glasses and his nice suits make him one of the nerdier NHL coaches today.

If only Maclean could really figure out how to solve the Ottawa Senators' winning problems, then he would show his true intelligence.

Paul Maurice

Paul Maurice is another sharp dressed NHL coach, and his glasses complete the nerdy look.

Maurice is one of the brightest young coaches in the NHL, and he has done very well with the Carolina Hurricanes, despite not having a ton of talent.

At age 43, he became the youngest NHL coach ever to 1,000 games.

Claude Noel

Claude Noel just looks like a college professor, and he is among the sharpest dressing coaches in the NHL.

His task of bringing winning hockey back to the Winnipeg Jets will be his hardest test yet, one which will be difficult to pass.
