The 25 Best Dressed Players in the NHL

Most people assume the NHL is mostly missing teeth, mullets and oversized jerseys. Maybe that was the case years ago but it certainly isn't anymore.  Today many of the NHL's finest look just as at home on a red carpet as they do on the ice.

As proof, I present the top 25 best dressed players in the NHL.

25. Shane O'Brien, Nashville Predators

Predators defenseman Shane O'Brien knows how to dress for the occasion and pulls off spiked hair better than most people above the age of 16. 

He's clearly impressed that fellow in the striped shirt.

24. Jonathan Toews, Chicago Blackhawks

Blackhawks captain Johnathan Toews' nickname amongst his teammates is "Captain Serious."

Clearly he's serious about fashion as well as hockey.  Oh, and in case you were wondering, he's seriously single, too!  OK, I was wondering, feel free to send this to him.

23. Mike Richards, Los Angeles Kings

Kings center Mike Richards isn't just a hockey player, he's also a reality-show star in Canada, which clearly gives him occasion to show off his winning sense of style.  He recently appeared on Making the Cut, a Canadian reality show about aspiring hockey players. 

Oh Canada, how adorable you are. 

22. Shea Weber, Nashville Predators

Predators defenseman Shea Weber is a rising star in the NHL and was recently named team captain.  He recently finished second to Niklas Lidstrom in votes for the Norris Trophy. At least he looked good while losing. 

21. Steven Stamkos, Tampa Bay Lightning

Lightning center Steven Stamkos is only 20 years old and was recently named the cover athlete to the NHL 12 video game.  I was wearing pajamas to class when I was 20 years old.

20. P.K. Subban, Montreal Canadiens

Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban channels Deion Sanders in this pinstriped suit, and that's not a bad thing.  The NHL could use a little theater off the ice. 

19. Jeff Carter, Columbus Blue Jackets

Blue Jackets center Jeff Carter was recently traded from the Flyers and will be bringing some style to Columbus.  Carter summers at the Jersey Shore, though you wouldn't know it to look at him.

18. Martin Brodeur, New Jersey Devils

Devils' legendary goalie Martin Brodeur is a Renaissance man.  Aside from being amazing at hockey and fashionable, according to his Wikipedia page, he's also regarded as a brilliant chef and an engaging raconteur in his spare time. 

What's a raconteur?  A person who tells anecdotes in a skillful and amusing way.

Mark Messier is a hockey god, and he dresses the part. 

16. Brooks Laich, Washington Capitals

Capitals winger Brooks Laich just signed a six-year contract extension worth $27 million, which should keep him dressing for even more success.

Laich isn't just a pretty face in a fine suit, he's also a good samaritan.

15. Kevin Bieksa, Vancouver Canucks

The only thing that Canucks defenseman Kevin Bieksa likes more than coffee is looking good. He recently inked a long-term deal with the Canucks worth nearly $5 million a year, which should keep him in black suits with sunglasses and hot coffee for some time. 

14. Drew Doughty, Los Angeles Kings

Kings defenseman Drew Doughty has clearly picked up some fashion pointers in Los Angeles.  Right now he's in contract negotiations and wants to become the highest paid player on the team. 

Dress for the contract you want, not the contract you have. 

13. Chris Pronger, Philadelphia Flyers

Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger is an elder statesman in the NHL at age 36 and somewhere along the way he traded in his spiked hair and cargo shorts for a suit and tie.  It suits him.

12. Zach Parise, New Jersey Devils

Devils' left winger Zach Parise is the team's top signing priority for the offseason.  Seems everyone in Jersey is crazy about this sharp-dressed man, including his blonde bombshell girlfriend. 

11. Vincent Lecavalier, Tampa Bay Lightning

Lightning center Vincent Lecavalier prefers to keep it casual, and he does it well.  Very well. 

He also does philanthropy well. 

10. Jose Theodore, Florida Panthers

Panthers' goalie Jose Theodore looks so classy that you'd never guess that he once spent a night (or more) with Paris Hilton. 

I forgive you Jose. 

9. Jordan Staal, Pittsburgh Penguins & Eric Staal, Carolina Hurricanes

There are actually four Staal brothers and it feels wrong picking just the two of them.  Let me break it down: they are all blonde, they all play professional hockey, they are all fine, and they all know how to dress to impress the ladies. 

8. Ethan Moreau, Columbus Blue Jackets

Blue Jackets left winger Ethan Moreau looks good on the ice, in a studio and in a wooden room in front of a window. 

7. Patrice Bergeron, Boston Bruins

Bruins' center Patrice Bergeron has an impressive new accessory to go with his impressive wardrobe: a Stanley Cup.  The Stanley cup on one arm and his gorgeous girlfriend Stephanie on the other.

6. Brendan Shanahan

Brendan Shanahan currently works in the NHL office as the league's vice president of hockey and business operations.  He looks much better in a suit than a Red Wings jersey. 

5. Mike Fisher, Nashville Predators

Predators' center Mike Fisher is also known as Mr. Carrie Underwood.  He's got to look good at all times to keep up with his new wife. 

4. Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins

Penguins' center Sidney Crosby is the best in the game and he dresses the part off the ice.  How is this kid still single?

3. Sean Avery, New York Rangers

Rangers' left winger Sean Avery is a well known fashionista.  Is it still called a fashionista when it's a man?  Either way, you have to visit the website of this former Vogue intern.

2. Patrick Sharp, Chicago Blackhawks

Blackhawks' forward Patrick Sharp was recently featured on the cover of Chicago magazine in its "50 Most Beautiful Chicagoans" story.

Rangers' goalie Henrik Lundqvist is hands down the best dressed man in the NHL.  He's friends with a Swedish princess, he's got a number of blogs devoted to following his every move, he's got a (predictably) gorgeous girlfriend and he's got a twin brother.
