NHL Free Agency: 5 Best Players Left

Ben CousinsJun 7, 2018

This year's crop of free agents is weak.

Other than the likes of Brad Richards and maybe Thomas Kaberle, there aren't really any big fish.

However, after this weekend's explosion, there are still numerous players of value left.

Here are the top five players still in the 2011 free agency pool.

As always, feel free to comment with your opinion on who's the best and what team the players should go to.

Teemu Selanne

1 of 5

Teemu Selanne realistically has two options.

Retire or return to the Anahiem Ducks.

With that being said, Teemu has had a long career and will really have to think about whether or not it makes sense to return for another season.

With a career 1340, Teemu is a sure fire Hall of Fame inductee.

Teemu is one of the all time greats and can still compete at a very high level, the question is, does he want to?

Thomas Kaberle

2 of 5

Thomas Kaberle is arguably the only big name left that could go anywhere.

Some GM's will be scared away by his lack of physicality, however, his offensive upside will earn him a big contract somewhere.

Kaberle is the power play quarterback that many teams are in need of.

He also has the big game experience that can be very valuable.

Jason Arnott

3 of 5

Jason Arnott's skills are declining.

However, the dressing room leadership that Arnott can provide is worth a decent paycheque.

Anott would be a good fit at a younger team, one that would need a little bit of guidance.

Nikolai Zherdev

4 of 5

Nikolai Zherdev has the offensive upside to match anyone left in the free agent pool.

Any team looking to add some offence to their roster will definitely take a chance on Zherdev.

Zherdev had a disappointing season in Philadelphia, but has had good numbers in previous years, playing for both the New York Rangers and Columbus Blue Jackets.

Cory Stillman

5 of 5

Cory Stillman is another veteran winger with offensive upside and experience to boot.

At 36 years of age, Stillman probably still has three or four good years left. He will be a good fit on a variety of teams that are looking for a second or third line forward.

Expect Stillman to be picked up quick. He is, and remains to be, a valuable player in this league.
