WWE Road to WrestleMania: Top 10 Old School Things I Miss
In the Elimination Chamber PPV, the WWE Championship match was Jerry "The King" Lawler vs. The Miz.
This match featured some moves we had not seen in a long time in the WWE. This got me thinking about things that I miss in the WWE, which led to this article.
I guess that everybody misses some things they used to see in wrestling matches, and I'm almost positive that most young fans had never seen some of Lawler's moves before this Sunday.
FYI: I won't talk about the rating since we've had great matches with the PG rating (HBK vs. Taker) and awful ones under the 14 rating (HHH vs. Kozlov vs. Hardy/Edge).
Honorable Mentions
1 of 12
Since I'm not going to name them one by one, I'll put them here as a whole. I'm referring to the wrestler we'd love to see in WWE and that could compete (so not Hogan or Flair).
Everybody has their own favourites, so it's hard to put a lot of names in, but I think we'd all love to see The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Chris Jericho and Goldberg back.
Consider that your personal favourites are also mentioned here.
Surprises: This only gets a honorable mention because they've been doing a good job with it lately (Booker T and Diesel in the Rumble, The Rock as WM host, Stratus in the Elimination Chamber, etc.).
10) Blood
2 of 12
This one is kind of relative. I do get the concern for the guys' well-being, but stopping a fight in the middle because of blood pisses me off.
Don't let them do blade jobs, but if it happens by accident, let it continue. That's how it was in WCW (according to Eric Bischoff's autobiographical book "Controversy Creates Cash").
Also since they would get attended immediately, bring back first blood matches.
9) Moves
3 of 12
If you watched the Elimination Chamber PPV, then you saw some old school moves in the WWE Championship match. That was wrestling in the old days.
Some of the original moves have continued and are still used to this day (clothesline, sleeper, etc), while others have faded away.
Recently the WWE has brought back some old school moves, slightly changed them and started using them, but I'd like to see the original moves.
A DDT or a piledriver every once in a while can't hurt, can it?
8) Joey Styles

Maybe it's just me (I know it's not), but Michael Cole annoys the hell out of me. I'm all in favour of heel announcers, but why does he have to act like a 13-year-old girl in a Justin Bieber concert when he sees The Miz? (I apologize to all 13-year-old girls and/or Justin Bieber fans).
Make some other guy the heel announcer and bring this man back. He's one of the best announcers ever, he's the only one to do a whole PPV by himself and we would have catchphrases such as "Oh my God!" or "Cat fight, cat fight, cat fight!" instead of "And I quote" (yes, I quoted that).
7) Buildups
5 of 12
For some time now, I've said that there shouldn't be a PPV between the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania, that way a match (or feud) could get a good buildup, something that's been missing from WWE for a while now.
They've tried to do it with Edge vs Alberto Del Rio, but that meant Edge was going to win the SmackDown Elimination Chamber, as any other result would've put an early end to that feud.
6) Chants
6 of 12
Sorry, Michael Cole fans (Cole miners, or however you're called), but I'm going to go against him one more time.
OK, so we have chants such as "What?" or "Let's go Cena" and "Cena sucks," but what happened to "This is awesome" (OK this one made an appearance at Elimination Chamber) or the one I always want to hear whenever Michael Cole or Vickie Guerrero are near a microphone; "Shut the f*** up!"
I guess my point is that I miss the fan involvement.
5) Competition
7 of 12
I'm talking about competition for WWE. Like it or not, competition is good.
TNA is not real competition, as they only go head-to-head with the great WWE show "Superstars."
The WWE needs someone to step up like WCW did in the 90s, because that would only improve the product.
4) Tag Team and Women's Divisions
8 of 12
Two divisions that are nonexistent in the WWE right now, as there is not one real legitimate Tag Team and Women are now Divas.
The WWE should put together some new credible Tag Teams or bring back some old ones; Nate Scaccia has some ideas for that one.
As for the women's division, there is none, as they are "divas" and not women. There has been talk that Awesome Kong might be joining WWE, and even though that would be just a small step, at least it's a step in the right direction.
3) Managers
9 of 12
Some guys, like The Rock, Jericho, Austin, CM Punk or "Rowdy" Roddy Piper could talk and give us great promos. Others (most guys) are not able to do that. Those guys used to have managers that would talk for them and sometimes interfere in matches and attract heat for their guys.
Nowadays only non-English speaking wrestlers (Khali) have managers, but some other guys have great in-ring ability, but are (nearly) worthless in front of a mic (Daniel Bryan, for example).
Those guys could really benefit from a manager and give a boost to their careers.
2) Meaningful Titles
10 of 12
Earlier I went on about the Tag Team and Women's Division. Now it's the turn for the Intercontinental and US titles.
This titles, contrary to the Tag Team and Divas title, could have a lot of competition, which could consist of the upper midcard and/or lower main eventers.
But WWE doesn't seem to care for either title, as they are rarely defended and both the IC and US champions often are in boring storylines instead of in a feud (I'd rather have a bad feud than a boring storyline).
For me, the biggest problem is that those titles were once really prestigious (the IC in the WWE and the US in WCW) and have a great lineage of wrestlers who have won them, most of whom have used them as a stepping stone for a World Title.
1) BIG Entrances
11 of 12
WrestleMania is supposed to be "the biggest show of the year" and it used to have some great entrances, but sadly that's now gone.
Now instead of big entrances, we have a bad comedy segment featuring a leprechaun and/or a stereotypical Italian with a mean-looking Ukrainian sidekick.
What Do You Think?

What do you miss from WWE?
Did I get it right?
Was I nowhere near the mark?
