NHL's Best: Each NHL Team's Fastest Skater

    In last weekend's All-Star festivities, we all were treated by having the opportunity to watch the NHL Skills Competition.

    We all got to see the NHL All-Stars go up against each other toe-to-toe in different challenges to see who could show the best skill.

    After watching the Bridgestone Fastest Skater competition, it got me wondering.

    Who is the fastest player on each team? Well, after some research, here is who I came up with.

Anaheim Ducks: Ryan Getzlaf

    Ryan Getzlaf is the Ducks' fastest skater.

    The twenty-five year-old center dashes down the ice with ease and and uses his speed to be capable of both scoring and helping out his teammates.

    He has thirteen goals and twenty-four assists so far in his 2010-2011 campaign.

    Here is a video of Getzlaf blowing by the Wild's defense and finishing with a great goal.

Atlanta Thrashers: Jim Slater

    With Ilya Kolvalchuk leaving the Thrashers, Jim Slater takes over as the team's fastest player.

    The six-foot American uses his speed up and down the ice patrolling the middle and picking up the trash. Slater has 5 goals and 7 assists so far this year.

    Here is a video of him skating up the ice and scoring 2 goals against Philadelphia. 

Boston Bruins: Marc Savard

    Marc Savard is the fastest Bruin.

    The thirty-three year-old center has been slowed down this season do to a concussion and is expected to return within a month.

    Before being injured, he scored 2 goals and recorded 8 assists. Here's a video showing highlights of Savard's speed.

Buffalo Sabres: Tim Connolly

    Tim Connolly is the fastest Sabre.

    The twenty-nine year-old speedster has 6 goals and fourteen assists this season.

    Here is a video of him showing his speed while skating across the entire rink, killing off a Buffalo power play.

Calgary Flames: Jay Bouwmeester

    Jay Bouwmeester is the fastest skater in Calgary.

    This season, he has tallied 4 goals and recorded twelve assists.

    Here is a video of him competing in the Fastest Skater competition. 

Carolina Hurricanes: Sergei Samsonov

    Sorry Cam Ward, Sergei Samsonov is the fastest skater for the Carolina Hurricanes.

    So far this season, the left-winger has 9 goals and fourteen assists.

    Here is a video of Samsonov with Edmonton scoring ironically on Carolina.

Chicago Blackhawks: Patrick Kane

    Patrick Kane is the fastest skater for Chicago.

    The twenty-two year-old American flies up and down the ice and gives it all on both offense and defense.

    This year, he has fourteen goals and twenty-five assists.

    Here is a video of Kane burning the Vancouver defense and beating Luongo.

Colorado Avalanche: Matt Duchene

    Matt Duchene is the fastest skater for Colorado.

    The twenty year-old center has twenty goals and twenty-five assists this year for the young Colorado team.

    Here is a video of Duchene using his speed by scoring an overtime goal against Ottawa.

Columbus Blue Jackets: Antoine Vermette

    Antoine Vermette is the fastest skater in Columbus.

    The twenty-eight year-old has eleven goals and sixteen assists so far this season for the Blue Jackets.

    Here is Vermette scoring a shorthanded goal with Rick Nash against the Capitals.

Dallas Stars: Brad Richards

    The fastest player for the Dallas Stars is Brad Richards.

    The superstar has twenty-one goals and thirty-eight assists so far for Dallas.

    Here is a video of the thirty year-old using his speed to score a breakaway goal against Vancouver.

Detroit Red Wings: Henrik Zetterberg

    Henrik Zetterberg is the fastest skater for Detroit.

    This season, he has sixteen goals and recorded fourty assists.

    Here is a video of Henrik showing his speed on the forecheck and scoring against Vancouver.

Edmonton Oilers: Taylor Hall

    Taylor Hall is the fastest Oiler.

    The nineteen year-old winger has scored sixteen goals and recorded fifteen assists so far this season for Edmonton.

    Hall finished as the runner-up in the Fastest Skater Competition this year in Raleigh, North Carolina. Here is a video of him in the final round.

Florida Panthers: Stephen Weiss

    Stephen Weiss is the fastest skater on South Beach.

    The twenty-seven year-old center has scored fifteen times and has recorded twenty-one assists so far this season.

    Here is a video of Weiss going coast-to-coast against Boston.

Los Angeles Kings: Jarret Stoll

    Jarret Stoll is the fastest player for Los Angeles.

    Stoll has scored fourteen goals and has recorded eighteen assists so far this season for the Kings.

    Here is a video of Stoll using his speed to crash the net and score a diving goal.

Minnesota Wild: Martin Havlat

    Martin Havlat holds the title as the fastest skater for the Wild.

    The speedster has scored fourteen goals and has recorded thirty-one assists.

    Here is a video of Havlat skating fast up ice and scoring a goal.

Montreal Canadiens: Brian Gionta

    Brian Gionta is the fastest skater for the Canadiens.

    The thirty-two year-old has scored nineteen goals this season and has recorded nine assists.

    Here is a goal by Brian Gionta after he skates by the defenders.

Nashville Predators: Matthew Lombardi

    Even though he has been on the Injured Reserved List since October, Matthew Lombardi is the fastest skater for the Predators.

    Lombardi suffered a concussion 2 games into the season and is still unable to play.

    Here is a video of Lombardi flying across the ice while he played for Phoenix.

New Jersey Devils: Zach Parise

    Even though he is out with a knee injury, Zach Parise is the fastest skater for the Devils.

    The twenty-six year-old for Minnesota scored 3 goals and recorded 3 assists before going down with a knee injury.

New York Islanders: Michael Grabner

    The fastest skater for the Islanders is also the fastest skater in the NHL.

    Fastest Skater Competition winner Michael Grabner skated around the rink in 14.238 seconds and took home the first place trophy.

    Grabner has scored fifteen goals and recorded 7 assists for the Islanders.

New York Rangers: Marian Gaborik

    Marian Gaborik is the fastest skater for the New York Rangers.

    The twenty-eight year-old Czech has scored sixteen goals and recorded seventeen assists for the Rangers.

    Here is a video of Gaborik of the Slovakian team blowing by the competition to score a goal.

    He has some insane speed.

Ottawa Senators: Milan Michalek

    The fastest skater in Ottawa is Milan Michalek.

    The twenty-six year-old Czech has scored thirteen goals and recorded 9 assists for the Senators.

Philadelphia Flyers: Jeff Carter

    The fastest player in Philly is Jeff Carter.

    The twenty-six year-old Canadian has scored twenty-four goals and has recorded twenty-three assists for the Flyers.

    Carter is so fast, in this video he scores 2 goals in thirteen seconds.

Phoenix Coyotes: Lee Stempniak

    The fastest player in the desert is Lee Stempniak.

    This season, Lee has scored fourteen goals and recorded fifteen assists.

    Here is a video of Stempniak creating a break away opportunity for himself which leads to a goal.

Pittsburgh Penguins: Sidney Crosby

    The fastest player for the Penguins is Sidney Crosby.

    Even though he is still missing games due to concussion symptoms, Sid the Kid still has scored thirty-two goals and has recorded thirty-four assists.

St. Louis Blues: Andy McDonald

    Andy McDonald is the fastest skater for the Blues.

    He recently just recovered from concussion-like symptoms and is back to help lead the Blues into the playoffs.

    Before being injured, he scored 8 goals and recorded 9 assists.

    Here is a video of the speedster skating past the defenders and circling the net to beat Steve Mason.

San Jose Sharks: Patrick Marleau

    The fastest skater for the Sharks is Patrick Marleau.

    Marleau has shown his speed this season by recorded nineteen assists and scoring nineteen goals for San Jose.

    Here is a video of the thirty-one year-old flying by everyone to score against St. Louis.

Tampa Bay Lighting: Steven Stamkos

    The fastest player for the Lightning is Steven Stamkos.

    Stamkos has showed he's faster then lighting by leading the league with thirty-nine goals and sixty-eight points.

Toronto Maple Leafs: Phil Kessel

    Phil Kessel is the fastest skater for the Maple Leafs.

    The twenty-three year-old winger has scored nineteen goals and recorded fifteen assists this season.

    Here is a video of Kessel getting up from the ice and skating as fast as he could to receive the pass and score the goal.

Vancouver Canucks: Ryan Kesler

    The fastest player in Vancouver is Ryan Kesler.

    Kesler has showed his speed this season by scoring thirty goals and recording twenty assists.

Washington Capitals: Jason Chimera

    Jason Chimera is the fastest player in Washington.

    The thirty-one year-old winger has scored 7 goals and has recorded ten assists for the Caps.
