NHL Buzz: The Latest on Bill Guerin, Mike Ribeiro, James Neal and More

Todd CordellCorrespondent ISeptember 13, 2010

Bill Guerin is still skating with the Flyers. Tim Panaccio of CSNPhilly.com is reporting that if Bill Guerin would accept a tryout, the Flyers might bite and give him one.

My take: I think Bill Guerin would be a great fit in Philly; however, if he wanted to play there, he would have to accept $1 million or less.

According to multiple media outlets, the Dallas Stars are not shopping Mike Ribeiro.

My take: The Stars were never shopping Ribeiro; however, they were listening and still are. If the Stars receive a legitimate offer for Ribeiro, they will do it.

The Stars and James Neal continue to talk extension. Talks are slowly progressing, but nothing is close yet.

My take: The Stars should just budge and just give him the extra half a million or so. Neal is a very good player with a ton of potential. The Stars shouldn't risk not having him to open up the season.

Pierre LeBrun of ESPN is reporting that Marc Staal and the Rangers are nearing a contract extension.

My take: That is good news for the Rangers, as Staal will be in camp on time and will no longer be a distraction to the team.

The New Jersey Devils continue their search to clear cap space.

Some reports are saying the Devils would like to move Bryce Salvador, while others say they have no interest in doing so. Regardless of what rumors say, we all know the Devils have to make a move or two before the season starts to get under the cap.

My take: The Devils may not want to move Bryce Salvador, but they might be forced to. He is one of the most likely trade targets due to the Devils' depth on defense and his reasonable salary.
