Hard to believe, but there are just 14 days left before the NHL hits training camp after one of the most exciting seasons in recent memory.
The Philadelphia Flyers are coming off a season where they won the Eastern Conference title, and made it to Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals. What will this year bring the orange and black?
We have plenty of time to discuss that, so let's save that for a later date.
Furthermore, an interesting bit of news came out of the Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, NJ today. Recently released NHL veteran Bill Guerin, was seen working out in Flyers gear this morning, according to CSNPhilly.com’s Tim Panaccio.
“I was down in the area visiting my father-in-law who lives in Medford [N.J.],” said Guerin. “I was going to be in the area anyway and I wanted to get on the ice. My agent talked to Paul [Holmgren] about possibly having me come here and skate around with the guys. It was nice.”
Guerin, 39, was surprisingly released from the Pittsburgh Penguins on August 27th when the Pens decided not to bring him back to the team for the 2010-11 season.
Guerin told CSNPhilly.com that he would like to get a tryout offer from the Flyers. If the Flyers decide to sign Guerin, he would be a very influential addition to this already established club.
“Right now, honestly, it is just about getting back on the ice," added Guerin."I’m just getting myself in shape, skating shape, to be ready just in case anything happens somewhere. I am definitely looking to play this year.”
The 17-year veteran winger has won two Stanley Cups, and is looking to play one more season in the NHL. Guerin, recorded four goals and nine points in 11 playoff games last season.
Guerin, has played in 1,263 games and has totaled 856 points (429G, 427A) with a career plus/minus of 51.
If Guerin eventually signs with Philadelphia, he will most likely battle Dan Carcillo for the top-nine winger slot.
If the Flyers plan to sign Guerin, that would mean Darroll Powe would be the odd man out and sent to the AHL. My bet, would be Guerin will simply hang around Voorhees for the next couple days and that will be it.
Guerin's agent stated We. that he's looking to get his client a contract, not a tryout offer.
