Ilya Kovalchuk

Tom Gulitti of NorthJersey.com is reporting that the NHL could make a decision on the Kovalchuk contract today. The NHL has until five pm on September 1 to make a decision regarding the contract.

The league should accept the deal since Dmitry Chesnokov of Puck Daddy (Yahoo! Sports) is reporting that the Devils' latest offer addresses all of the concerns pointed out by the arbiter.

Antti Niemi

Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com is reporting that the Stanley Cup winning goaltender could find a job within the next 48 hours. Hopefully it's in the NHL.

Marc Savard

James Murphy of ESPN.com is reporting that center Marc Savard is actively being shopped around the league by the Boston Bruins. However, there are problems since his contract is being investigated by the league and the teams that want him need to clear some cap-space.

Even his NTC could be a problem since he has apparently said that he would only waive it if he were traded to either Toronto or Ottawa.

Nikolai Khabibulin

David Staples is reporting that Khabibulin's job in Edmonton is secure and he won't lose his spot because of his recent arrest.

Ilya Bryzgalov

Various sources are reporting that Ilya Bryzgalov is close to signing an extension with the Phoenix Coyotes. He could sign for more than six million a year.

Kirk Maltby

Ansar Khan of MLIVE.com is reporting that Maltby's agent believes that the veteran forward will re-sign with the Red Wings by the end of the week.
