For all those fans who thought the Ilya Kovalchuk saga was finally coming to an end, you're wrong. Once again the Devils and Kovalchuk hit a road block with the NHL. Dmitry Chesnokov of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that the NHL has seen the framework of a new contract and has told the Devils that they would not approve it.
The Devils and Kovalchuk will go back to the drawing board once again. The good news for Devils fans is that Will DePaoli of Inside Pittsburgh Sports is reporting that Kovalchuk has not had talks with any other team and is focused on getting a deal done with the Devils.
Dennis Bernstein of thefourthperiod is reporting the LA Kings are still in on Willie Mitchell but they are not the front-runners.
Greg Wyshynski of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that Owen Nolan has been skating with some of the San Jose Sharks players. He also notes that he would like to play two more years.
The Edmonton Oilers are still trying to move Sheldon Souray, but there isn't a big market for him right now.
Brad Ziemer of the Vancouver Sun is reporting that Roberto Luongo could be stripped of his captaincy. He also notes Henrik Sedin could be an option.
The Vancouver Canucks have signed Raffi Torres to a one-year deal worth $1 million. Great signing for the Canucks, in my opinion, as Torres can fit nicely in the bottom-six.
There is nothing new on the Marc Staal front, talks are at a stand-still. Staal is hoping that someone sends him an offer sheet so the Rangers can match it or he could go elsewhere.
Ben Wright (the official Thrashers web guy) is reporting that the Atlanta Thrashers have extended a camp invite to Kyle McLaren on a tryout basis.
Ron Wilson wants to meet with Tomas Kaberle to see if these rumors are indeed true and how he feels about the Maple Leafs.
This concludes today's edition of NHL Buzz, enjoy.
