The Devils are still in talks with Ilya Kovalchuk. I am hearing they are progressing, but nothing is too close yet.
If the Devils sign Kovalchuk, look for one (maybe two) of Bryce Salvador, Colin White, Dainius Zubrus, or Brian Rolston to be on the move. The Islanders may be interested in a player or two if and when they become available.
Eric Belanger is still waiting for the Capitals to make a roster move so his signing can become official. I'm still hearing that it is indeed Tomas Fleischmann that they will move.
The Capitals' options on defense right now are Kevin Bieksa via trade, Sheldon Souray via trade, and Willie Mitchell via free agency.
Speaking of Mitchell, it is expected that he will make his decision Monday or Tuesday. The Capitals, Sharks, Kings, and Canucks seem the most interested.
There are also mixed reports on Tomas Kaberle right now. Some media outlets are saying Kaberle has sent a list of teams to Brian Burke or will accept a trade in general because he is sick of Ron Wilson. Other outlets say nothing is going on. This should be interesting to watch, hopefully it doesn't drag out much longer.
Darren Dreger of TSN is reporting that Marc Savard will NOT be traded.
The KHL has legalized fighting, there will no longer be an additional penalty/suspension for a fight.
This concludes today's edition of NHL Buzz, enjoy.
