We all know that when it comes to free agent signings... Glen Sather is hit or miss. However, when it comes to trades, Slats has shown a keen talent to get the better end. Here are a few trades that I believe would behoove Sather to consider. I'm not saying he should do ALL these moves... but these might be a few that could help the team.

Brian Boyle & 2nd Rounder for Patric Hornqvist

This is an incredibly talented kid. Young kid. Energetic kid. The kind of player that the Rangers truly could use. He's Ryan Callahan, that can legitimately score. Last season... 30 goals!
The Preds are still in negotiations with him... and he'll likely get near $2.5 million per. If the Rangers demote Wade Redden, which is likely, they'll have about $6 more million to deal with. At the moment, bottom 6 centers is a spot that the Rangers are quite plentiful with. Chris Drury, honestly, belongs there. A 4th line of Avery - Drury - Byers/Boogaard would cause havoc, no doubt. Boyle is not necessary... costs less than Hornqvist for the penny pinching Preds (how's THAT for alliteration!), and gives the Rangers another top winger, if and when players like Alex Frolov or MZA falter.
The Preds are also deep on the wings. Win-win.

Marc Staal for Bobby Ryan

Let the debate rage on this. Either you love this move or hate it. I believe that Marc Staal is a LEGIT 1st or 2nd pairing defenseman. However, defensemen we have in DROVES. If Staal was traded... this is what we have for the future: Del Zotto, Girardi, McDonagh, McIlrath, Kundratek, Sauer, Pashnin, Valentenko, Gilroy. That's 9 guys with a legitimate shot at making the team. Half of those guys are stay at home, like Staal, with McDonagh possibly making the team THIS YEAR!
I love Marc Staal for sure... don't get me wrong. But again, how can you not consider this move? We're set on defense, no doubt. On wing.... another story. Bringing in the 2 time 30 goal scoring kid from NJ ends that dilemma, and in the process, allows players like Gratchev and Kreider to only develop more, without the rush.
If there's a position Anaheim NEEDS help in now, it's ultimately defense. Niedermayer? Gone. Pronger? Gone. Hell... James Wisniewski? Gone. They need a new leader on the blueline... and Staal might just be it.

Brian Boyle (Again) and Carl Hagelin for Troy Brower

What Chris Drury should have been, Troy Brower is a SOLID 2 way winger that can mix it up, and score goals. He'd be a perfect 3rd liner for years to come. And he costs over $3 million per. The Blackhawks are DESPERATE for cap relief, and this gives it to them.
At center, with the potential loss of John Madden, Chicago has a hole at 4th line. Boyle makes up for it, while Hagelin might be decent when he is done with college in the next 2 years. He only sweetens the pot for a team just racking up prospects.

Matt Gilroy for Blake Wheeler

I gotta believe Tortorella would drool at the possibility of acquiring a huge rough and tumble power forward. Blake Wheeler is that... with scoring ability.
Like many other teams, Boston MUST lose some payroll... and is having trouble trading Tim Thomas. Yes, the Bruins just signed Wheeler for $2.2 million, but would be saving a cool million for getting the defensive upgrade they need. I'm sorry, but after Zdeno Chara (who might bolt himself after his contract is up)... they really have who? Wideman is gone, and the combination of Matt Hunwick and Mark Stuart scare... no one. Gilroy had issues under Tortorella, and would probably welcome a deal to a place that he played in college.
As we all know, the Rangers' weakness is wing, and Wheeler is... a winger. When Wheeler walked away from Phoenix a few years back.... the Blueshirts were one of many teams that courted him. Just saying.... and interesting fit.

Anything Else?

Plenty of other names that are out there have yet to be moved.  Maybe former Ranger Marc Savard has fixed his iffy personality?

Would you have interest in any of the defensemen reportedly available?  Tomas Kaberle or Robyn Regehr?

You think we could steal Nikita Filatov?

What do you think something like that would take?
