NHL Buzz: Thursday, August 5

Todd CordellCorrespondent IAugust 5, 2010

There are a lot of rumors flying around so I am just going to dive right into them.

I was exchanging emails with Andy Strickland yesterday regarding Antti Niemi, and he said he talked to Niemi's agent yesterday morning and he wouldn't budge on naming any teams. According to Niemi's agent, seven teams have expressed interest in his client. I have heard that the Islanders, Sharks, Capitals, and Oilers are among them.

The Maple Leafs are an unlikely destination due to the fact they would have to move a goalie, "Giggy's" cap hit is too high and they have high hopes for Jonas Gustavsson, but anything is possible.

The Oilers and Maples are among the teams in talks with John Madden.

The Chicago Blackhawks are still looking to add to their defensive core, he would have to be a solid player at a reasonable cap hit.

Like I have said several times the Ducks are offering Bobby Ryan the money he wants, just not the term. He wants a two or three year deal and the Ducks want to lock him up long-term. If it gets down to it, I think one will budge or maybe they could compromise and sign a 4-year deal.

According to Mark Everson of the New York Post the Devils are expected to win the Kovalchuk case. He suggested if they do that they will be looking to shed some salary. The names that I have heard the most are Brian Rolston, and Bryce Salvador.

According to Kevin Allen of USA Today is reporting that the Maple Leafs have received two legitimate offers for Tomas Kaberle and suggests that as the Kovalchuk saga closes there will be more teams interested.

This concludes today's edition of NHL Buzz, enjoy.
