A lot has happened since the last time the Maple Leafs played their last game on Saturday April 10th 2010 versus the Montreal Canadians.

Of course many people would have forgotten by now what the Leafs did after
acquiring their current Captain Dion Phaneuf from Calgary.  The Leafs played some pretty good hockey going 11 Wins, 8 loses, 2 Overtime Losses since February 2nd 2010.  Looking at these numbers and applying the same formula for the rest of the season, you would be purchasing your playoff tickets at the Air Canada Centre.

Brian Burke has done a phenomenal jobs since taking over the job from John
Furgenson, of course he had to deal with a dreadfull number of players who believed that playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs is an entitlement that no one could take away.

Brian Burke brought a new attitude that forced many players to perform above their current levels.  No one was safe and nobody cared where you came from, how many years you have played for or what number you wore on your jersey.

The 2010 season saw many young players step up to the plate and fit in nicely for their roles.

Kulemin 78GP 16G 20A 36PTS, Tyler Bozak 37GP 8G 19A 27PTS are a few examples of players that Fans in Toronto never thought would come out and play the way they did, which brings us to what is next on Brian Burke's List of free agents he is tracking or trades that are on burners awaiting to happen.

Already Brian
Burkes has brought in the nifty Kris Versteeg 79G 20G 24A 44PTS who should fit perfectly as a 1st or 2nd line winger.  Colby Armstrong 79G 15G 14A 29PTS who is a gritty player and should offer alot of leadership and energy to the Leafs Line up.  Mike Brown should fit perfectly in the 3rd line as a bruiser along with his counterpart Colton Orr.

If the season would start today, the Leafs would surely be in the playoffs using the same record from February 2010 and adding the current upgrades to the roster.

However Brian Burke is not done!!

Reports suggest that the Minnesota Wild, Washington Capitals, San Jose Sharks, Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings are interested in the puck moving
defence man.  Any trade with any of these teams would suggest the Leafs would be receiving a top six forward that is ready to step onto the ice and make a difference.  So here is a list of players Brian Burke could be targeting in a trade.

Ryane Clowe 82GP 19G 38A 57PTS  San Jose Sharks

Miettinen 79GP 20G 22A 42PTS Minnesota Wild

Bobby Ryan 81GP 35G 21A 56PTS Anaheim Ducks ( pretty far fetched )

Stoll 73GP 16G 31A 47PTS Los Angeles Kings

Fehr 69GP 21G 18A 39PTS Washington Capitals

The majority of these players would be hard to touch under any circumstances, however all of the above teams are in dire need of the skills that Tomas
Kaberle brings to the ice.  It would not be a surprise if any of these players or similar players end up in a Leaf uniform comes the 2011 season.

Only time can tell what Brian Burke has got going under his hat.  The good news is that we only have to wait 2 more weeks to find out.
