Colby Armstrong to Pittsburgh Penguins: Yay Or Nay?

Amber AlexanderJun 10, 2010

When the Montreal Canadiens ousted the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs, fans started asking questions as to what the organization need in order to win the Stanley Cup again.

Well the obvious choices were wingers and defensemen.

I looked back at my old articles to see who I think fits the mold for this concept.  Now I'm deciding about the one argument that seems to have media and fans alike asking more questions.

Colby Armstrong.

He won the hearts of Pittsburgh fans as well as being Sidney Crosby's first friend on the team. Army has strong ties to Pittsburgh that include the fact that his wife is from there.

Army isn't going back to Atlanta, that is something I do know.

So now we have to wonder where is he going?

Will he take less money to move back to a winning team, where there is family and where he began his career?

I think he will.

But it's up to Penguin management to decide if they want him back.

Putting him on a line with Sid or Geno would bring confidence back to his game.  He had a tough 2009-2010 season that lowered his value.

Put him in a Penguins uniform again, and we'll see a goal scorer come to life. Trust me.

There's a lot of criticism of this philosophy; people saying he wants more money, blah blah blah. What no one has realized is if you put Army on a winning team, he'll take less money to try and win the Cup.

He also brings something else that only the likes of Craig Adams, Matt Cooke and Mike Rupp have.

Physical presence.

He hits like a machine and doesn't feel guilty about it. Pittsburgh became known as being a physical, hard-hitting team. Gary Roberts is the first person I think of, and the list goes on and on.

The Penguins are a physical team, but they aren't hitting like they used to. It's time to scare opponents and make them feel the pain.

What do I think?

Bring Colby Armstrong in for a two-year deal with $1.5 or $2 million a year.
