Flyers Blank B's: Force Game 6 In Philly

Cory DuceyMay 10, 2010

The Philadelphia Flyers are flying high after a convincing 4-0 win against the Boston Bruins at the Garden.  This is the 1st loss for the Bruins at home in these playoffs.

While the Flyers played that well, the Bruins played that bad.  Out of the 14 penalties called, 10 were given to the Bruins.  This didn't make things easier for Boston Net minder, Tuukka Rask as he tried to keep his team in it but with the Flyers out shooting the Bruins 31-23, and the lack of defensive play coupled with strong net presence on the Flyers' part, he could not prevent the trip to the Wachovia Center for a Game 6.

The name if the game is discipline.  Apparently, Boston didn't get that tonight as they played sloppy and the Flyers got the bounces tonight and they kept themselves out of the box.

The return of Simone Gagne seemed to have lifted the Flyers up as since he has returned, the Bruins have been outscored 9-4 in the last 2 games and Gagne earned 3 points, all goals.  Just to show how good it got for the Flyers, Scott Hartnell got his first goal in the playoffs.

Bergeron's line was held to just a handful of shots and once the Flyers built that lead, they held a Neutral Zone Clinic similar to Boston's play and composure when they played in Game 3.

One good thing that happened in the Bruins' view is the injury of Flyers' Goaltender Brian Boucher who has played very well throughout the playoffs.  Michael Leighton stepped in and he wasn't heavily tested in this game so Game 6 will tell the tale.

My guess is Coach Claude Julien needs to let his team know that their performance and their lack of discipline will not take them to the 3rd round.

If the Bruins expect to put this away, they'd better find that D that helped them in the first 3 games.  if not, this could be Game 7 and it would be hard pill to swallow to be the 3rd team in history to lose a series after being up 3 games in a 7 game series.
