Bryce Harper Records Outfield Assist with 98.2 MPH Throw to Home Plate

Andrew GouldJun 10, 2017

Opponents better think twice about running on Bryce Harper.

During the ninth inning of Saturday's 3-3 game against the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park, the Texas Rangers replaced third baseman Adrian Beltre with Pete Kozma.

The pinch runner nearly paid dividends when—after advancing from first to third on a Nomar Mazara double—Robinson Chirinos hit a fly ball to right field.

It looked far enough to bring home the leading run without drama, but Harper uncorked a laser to home plate. Although the umpire initially declared Kozma safe, the call was reviewed and reversed.

Baseball Savant's Daren Willman reported Harper's throw had a blazing speed more befitting a Stephen Strasburg fastball, and even that is selling the superstar slugger a tad short:

Harper's arm preserved the tie, but Chirinos responded with a three-run homer in the top of the 11th.
