Freeney Comments on Playing Status
Thursday, Nov. 10
"If I can practice pretty well and I feel pretty good, I will probably play," Freeney said, per Michael Cunningham of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "It’s going to be a day-to-day thing, but I think I am definitely trending up."
Freeney Provides Situational Value for Falcons
Prior to the injury, Freeney registered three sacks and nine combined tackles while working as a situational defensive end for the Falcons. Atlanta signed him in August to provide depth up front, and he continues to excel in a niche role at age 36.
The coaching staff has also taken it easy on him during the week in an effort to keep the longtime defensive star healthy. The former Indianapolis Colts stalwart said in September that getting Wednesdays off from practice is a big help, per McClure:
"I've been doing that, for the most part, since my eighth or ninth year. When you start getting older, sometimes it's better for you to kind of get that rest on Wednesday so you don't injure something because you are so banged up. Those guys do great upstairs in realizing that. I'm not going to say, "No, I need to (practice)." Every place is different, but they do a good job with that.
"
Freeney previously suffered a torn quad during the 2013 season with the San Diego Chargers.
