Wozniacki vs. Kerber: Score, Highlights from US Open Semifinals 2016
On the same night she moved to No. 1 in the world rankings, Angelique Kerber earned herself a spot in the U.S. Open finals for the first time. The second-seeded Kerber got there with a 6-4, 6-3 win over unseeded Caroline Wozniacki thanks to five breaks of serve, including the final game.
Kerber won the first four games of the first set before Wozniacki took the next three, but another break enabled Kerber to go up a set. She's now 44-0 in 2016 when winning the opening set.
Another early break put Kerber in control of the second set, and she had the chance to serve for the victory up 5-2 before Wozniacki broke back to keep the match alive. Kerber then fought back from 30-15 in the final game to win and reach her third Grand Slam final of 2016, following her Australian Open title in January and a runner-up finish at Wimbledon in July.
Kerber moves on to Saturday's final to take on No. 10 Karolina Pliskova, who upset top-seeded Serena Williams 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) in the first semifinal.
