Carmelo Anthony nailed nine triples and scored 31 points to lift USA Basketball over Australia 98-88 Wednesday night at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Although the Americans improved to 3-0, it was a tougher game than most expected. The Boomers (2-1) took a 54-49 advantage into the locker room after making 19-of-28 shots during the first half.
Patty Mills netted a team-best 30 points, pushing his Olympic-best scoring average to 25.7. Andrew Bogut added 15 points, while Matthew Dellavedova tallied 11 points and 11 assists.
However, Anthony came up clutch during the final quarter. He hit a layup and connected on four trifectas, sparking a 28-16 run throughout the final nine minutes of the contest.
Kyrie Irving registered 19 points and five assists.
