Le'Veon Bell's Suspension Reportedly Reduced

Joe PantornoAug 1, 2016

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell's suspension, which the NFL handed him after he missed multiple drug tests during the offseason, reportedly has been reduced.

On Friday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the NFL is reducing Bell's suspension from four games to three. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo noted the league and players' union settled on the decision.

Bell has shown flashes of becoming a brilliant dual-threat running back in the NFL. In 2014, his lone full season, he rushed for 1,361 yards and added another 854 receiving.

But this isn't the first time that Bell has had a run-in with the law of the league. Last season, he was suspended for three games after being arrested for DUI and marijuana possession. The suspension was later knocked down to two games.

Upon his return, Bell wasn't able to stay on the field for long. In Pittsburgh's Week 8 contest against the Cincinnati Bengals, linebacker Vontaze Burfict ended the running back's season after a questionable tackle caused a knee injury that required surgery, via the NFL:

While he underwent the surgery in November, Bell is still on the recovery trail. Although he has been cleared to participate in training camp, his knee was still bandaged up in late July, as Chris Adamski of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review showed.

Bell might be healthy enough to go in Week 1, but his off-field trouble will hold him out longer than desired.
