Kevin Stevens, Former Penguins Star, Charged with Conspiracy to Sell Oxycodone

Former Pittsburgh Penguins star Kevin Stevens was charged on May 12 in federal court with conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute oxycodone.

Kevin Paul Dupont of the Boston Globe reported Stevens pled not guilty to two federal drug charges on Tuesday and remains in custody for violating terms of his probation.

Per Milton J. Valencia of the Boston Globe, Stevens was part of the NHL's substance-abuse program during his playing career, and his attorney, John J. Commisso, said his client is dealing with "injuries, pain and other challenges."

The 51-year-old Brockton, Massachusetts, native spent 15 seasons in the NHL from 1987 through 2002 with the Pens, Boston Bruins, Los Angeles Kings, New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers.

He registered 329 goals and 726 points in 874 career games. The three-time All-Star also won a pair of Stanley Cups with the Penguins in 1991 and 1992.

His best campaign came in 1991-92 when he racked up 54 goals and a career-high 123 points during the regular season before adding another 28 points in 21 playoff games.
