Are You A JaMarcus Russell Hater, Or Are You A JaMarcus Russell Supporter?

OAKLANDRAIDERCorrespondent ISeptember 22, 2009

Which side are you on when it comes to JaMarcus Russell being the starting quarterback for the Oakland Raiders? It seems like game after game there are mixed reactions and thoughts on our QB and his progression.

Are you a JaMarcus Russell hater, or are you a JaMarcus Russell supporter?

There's a lot to think about here. You could focus on the negatives or you could focus on the positives. We must also look into variables such as teammates, coaching staff and experience.

Truth is, JaMarcus Russell was born in 1985, thus making him 24 years old this year on Aug. 9, and the guy is still very young and doesn't have much experience being a NFL starting QB.

Another thing I don't like is when people try to compare Russell to other young QBs around the league. Russell is his own person and everyone is different.

Since Tom Cable has been head coach, JaMarcus Russell has started 13 games, with two of the 13 coming from this season versus San Diego and Kansas City.

One would think that with a whole offseason and the help of Ted Tollner and Paul Hackett, Russell's play would be much improved.

This is why I think so much of the preseason was built to work the passing game, because our passing game is still very raw. The Raiders don't have veteran WRs, and due to injury, we have to start two rookie WRs in Darrius Heyward-Bey and Louis Murphy.

I, like many Raiders fans, want to see Russell do well, with all the money we pay him and all the pressure put on his shoulders. We see no excuses for poor play even at 24 years old. When it comes to the NFL, age doesn't matter. It's about production and either you got it or you don't.

If anything, I see our offense in the early stages of becoming a solid group. Look at the age of our skilled players going into the Kansas City game: Russell 24, Mcfadden 22, Bush 25, Miller 25, DHB 22, Murphy 22 and Chaz Schilens 23 (hurt).

Look around the league and try to find me one offense whose starting offensive skill players are all under 25 years old.

If anything, we should be happy and understand that this team has rebuilt and is a team for the future, even though we expect to win right now. Which I understand, since it has been six seasons since we were a factor in the NFL.

People are all over Russell's preformance at Kansas City in week two, but I could care less about his stats. This is about winning and losing, and Kansas City has never been an easy place for us, I knew it was going to be a ugly game going in, but road games are like business trips, you go out and handle business.

Just like when the Raiders go to KC, it should never be an easy game when other teams come to Oakland. I expect to see us fans make it hard on the away QB.

Regardless of the bad play, Russell was able to focus on winning and doing what was needed to win the game on the final drive.

So with that, I will ask this question once again, to all of my Raiders fans:

Are you a JaMarcus Russell Hater? Or are you a JaMarcus Russell Supporter?

The season is still young and we are 1-1, which way do you think we will go under Russell?

I want to see who thinks JaMarcus Russell will lead the Oakland Raiders to wins.

We will mark this article down and look later at who was right and who was wrong.
