Kenya's Bernard Kipyego retained his Amsterdam Marathon title on Sunday after completing the 42-kilometre course in a time of 2:06:18, beating his 2014 time by four seconds and finishing 42 seconds off the course record.

It was a clean sweep for Kenya on Sunday, too, as Joyce Chepkirui crossed the line in a time of 2:24:10, beating 2014 winner Betelhem Moges by more than four minutes. The event's official Twitter account provided footage of both finishes:

A full list of Sunday's Amsterdam Marathon results will be available on the race's official website.

Kipyego's victory means Kenya have produced the winner of the Amsterdam Marathon for five years in succession, eclipsing their previous best of four consecutive winners between 1996 and 1999, and again between 2006 and 2009.

Three-time champion and course-record-holder Wilson Chebet came to the Dutch capital hoping to seal his fourth Amsterdam masterclass, but the 30-year-old was unable to etch his name further into the history books.

The African nations may have dominated the winning places in Amsterdam for as long as anyone can remember, but there was particularly good news for Dutch native Abdi Nageeye, who sealed his place at next year's Olympics:

Ezekiel Chebii and Mike Kigen claimed silver and bronze, respectively, in the men's race, further solidifying Kenya's dominant grip on long-distance running of late with a sweep of the podium.

Sunday's race marks the fifth time since 2006 that Kenya has accounted for both male and female champions of the Amsterdam Marathon, with rivals Ethiopia the only nation able to break up the duopoly in that time.

Awaiting the competitive runners at the Olympic Stadium was a grandstand of spectators in full voice for the spectacle that made its way back to their borders for its latest annual instalment.

The Amsterdam Marathon is widely regarded as one of Europe's most scenic road-running routes, and Sunday's 26.2-mile extravaganza entertained as Kenya's victors waltzed away with both titles in tow.
