The excitement in Day 1 of the NHL draft came right at the start.
Not so much for the drama of figuring out who would be selected, but because of the quality at the top.

Both of those young stars have generational talent and appear to have the ability to help turn things around for both struggling franchises.
In addition to those two young, talented players, the Boston Bruins made news, as they ended up with Nos. 13, 14 and 15 picks in the first round after trading power forward Milan Lucic (to the Los Angeles Kings) and the defenseman Dougie Hamilton (to the Calgary Flames).

After Friday night's first round, the 30 NHL teams will be back at it for Rounds 2-7 of the draft on Saturday at 10 a.m. ET from the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida.
While most of the draft's superstars have been selected, many of the league's future core players will be available in Day 2 of the draft. Among the top players likely to be selected in the second round include center Jansen Harkins, right wing Daniel Sprong and defenseman Ryan Pilon.

The Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks are among the teams that have done well in the second round. Conn Smythe Trophy winner Duncan Keith is included in their list of second-round successes.
The second day of the NHL draft will be broadcast on the NHL Network in the United States and SportsNet in Canada. The NHL Network will take SportsNet's feed and there will be no independent production, as there was Friday night on the NBC Sports Network's broadcast.
