Russell Westbrook Scoffs at Reporter's Question About Him Rooting for Spurs
The Oklahoma City Thunder need the right dominoes to fall in the coming days to grab the last spot in the Western Conference playoffs.
Specifically, they need a win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday in conjunction with a San Antonio Spurs victory over the New Orleans Pelicans that same night.
No one in Oklahoma City is happy about the postseason future being partially out of the team's hands—least of all Russell Westbrook, who'd probably head-butt a tank mine before taking a handout from a conference rival.
Nonetheless, the Thunder need a San Antonio win, and one reporter thought it would be cute to ask the most competitive man in basketball if he "would call [himself] a Spurs fan" in light of Oklahoma City’s position.
That idea was both bad and good—bad in the sense that Westbrook could've climbed over the wall of bodies and shoved a microphone down the reporter’s throat, but good because it provoked a classic Westbrook reaction instead.
The Cauldron's CJ Fogler uploaded a Vine and video of the Thunder guard's response. Westbrook physically recoiled at the question and answered with three eye rolls and four different kinds of snort.
"You gotta root for the Spurs," the reporter said.
"I ain't gotta root for nobody," Westbrook answered. "I ain't no Spurs fan. What type of question is that? You see my hat?"
And there it is—your "Are you outside your damn mind right now?" reaction for when your friends start asking stupid questions.
"Hey, man. You mad they banned selfie sticks at the Kentucky Derby?"
"Yo, dog. You signing up for that Tidal?"

"My dude. You want to help me write this oral history of Scorpion?"

We can argue about whether dumb questions exist (they do), but I think we can all agree that asking Westbrook if he’s rooting for the Spurs is like asking a wounded lion if he hopes the rival pride will bring down enough gazelles for him to smell the feast.
Anyway, enjoy your Westbrook stink eye and wield it responsibly.
