TNA Impact Wrestling Signs New TV Deal with Destination America
TNA Impact Wrestling announced Wednesday that the company has signed a multi-year deal with Discovery Communications to broadcast programming on the Destination America channel, according to a press release from ImpactWrestling.com.
TNA president Dixie Carter commented about the new television contract:
"We are very excited about Destination America being the new network for IMPACT WRESTLING and the partnership with Discovery Communications both domestically and across the globe. Their commitment to promote and grow our brand in innovative and compelling ways was instrumental in knowing we had found the right home. Together we will create an experience that takes our fans on a new journey that will push the envelope of technology, including where we take our cameras, going deeper into our superstars’ lives and showing the reality of what it takes to create a weekly professional wrestling show, all while showcasing the very best male and female athletes in the world.
"
Impact Wrestling has been on Spike TV since 2005, but the show will begin airing on Destination America in January 2015. The deal also mentions additional content and specials that will be produced by TNA on the channel.
After reports that Spike TV had cancelled Impact Wrestling, there were legitimate concerns about the long-term future of the company. A multi-year deal ensures that TNA will continue to be a major contender in the wrestling industry.
From a short-term point of view, this is the best-case scenario. Impact Wrestling will have no more pre-taped episodes after Wednesday's show and was running out of time on Spike TV. Signing a new television deal gives the wrestlers and the entire company hope for the future.
As for the long-term success of TNA on Destination America, it will be imperative that Discovery Communications backs the company by billing it as one of the flagship programs on the network.
With the right fiscal support and the proper advertising, Impact Wrestling should be one of the most popular shows on Destination America.
