We obviously have seen just the beginning of the wheeling and dealing to commence before the trade deadline.

One day after dealing Yuniesky Betancourt for a pair of minor leaguers the Mariners have struck again nabbing 3B Jack Hannahan from the Oakland Athletics for Double-A pitcher Justin Souza.

We still have 20 full days until the trade deadline, and still have all of our trade chips intact like Jarrod Washburn, and Miguel Batista, both will be subject to plenty of Hot Stove rumors.

This by all means is a minor deal, but so was David Aardsma, Russell Branyan, Garrett Olson, so keep that in mind.

He is not the long term solution, not even the likely starter ahead of fill in 3B Chris Woodward.

Zdurencik liked what he saw on defense and decided he was worth a low level pitching prospect. Last season Hannahan ranked second among American League 3B in fielding percentage.

Seems to me like we found a cheap clone of Beltre, a great fielder who cannot hit.

Sarcasm aside, his great defense fits the mold of this team, and furthers the left side away from being a minor liability like it was with Betancourt in there, imagine if we did not have Beltre next to him, ouch. If he can pick his batting up somewhat, he could be a long term fixture at 3B.

Small pickup, small price, and the deals potential can be anywhere from rock bottom to sky high. The way Zdurencik has been trading, the Mariners could have found a future All-Star.
