Former TNA and WWE World Heavyweight champion Jeff Hardy has thrilled wrestling fans for the last 16 years at an elite level, and he will once again team up with his brother Matt Hardy at Destination X this Thursday at 9 p.m. ET on Spike TV.
The Hardys will square off against the TNA tag team champions The Wolves with the titles on the line. Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards of The Wolves are two of the most talented in-ring performers in the company right now, but they have yet to square off with a team as legendary as Jeff and Matt Hardy.
Should The Hardys win the TNA Tag Team Championships?
Jeff's high-flying style has catapulted his superstardom and made him one of the most breathtaking wrestlers in history. Now, realigned with his brother, they'll put their high-risk style on display in order to dominate the company’s tag team division.
Tag team wrestling has been overlooked in the industry in recent years, but The Hardys and The Wolves will push the division to the forefront at Destination X.
Jeff Talks About Reuniting with Matt at Destination X
One of the coolest things TNA has done over the last several years has been the focus on the X Division during the build to the Destination X. The best match announced for Thursday’s card is the tag match between The Hardys and The Wolves.
The Wolves are the two-time and defending tag team champions but have never faced a duo as dominant and cohesive as The Hardys. With Jeff’s aerial assault and Matt’s power-based moves, the two men have beaten the toughest teams in history.
When asked about joining forces with his brother once again, in an interview with Ring Rust Radio, Jeff talked about what fans should expect from the match and what it means at this point of his career, courtesy of News of Delaware County's Joe Arcidiacono:
This week on Impact is beyond great. When you talk about tag team wrestling, this is the top of the mountain, man. The Wolves are one of the best tag teams in the world, and my brother and I, the Hardy Boys, are back in TNA and we’re going for the titles one more time and you do not want to miss this match this week on TNA Impact Wrestling,. It’s a show-stealer…
Oh, now more than ever. We both went through the dark periods and on the other side of those dark periods, we came out on the better side and to be performing the way we are, whether he’s on an Indy show or Ring of Honor and I’m doing my thing, we’re still rocking. To reunite and to be just as good as we’ve ever been pays off for us and the fans. It’s a good feeling. I’m 36 years old and to get back together and still rock the house is a good feeling.
Both Matt and Jeff have been forced to overcome their demons outside the wrestling ring. With each getting older and more mature, their appreciation of the sport and their ability to work together again has given them a new lease on life.
Fans should expect an all-out war during Thursday's Impact Wrestling.
As seen during The Hardys legendary matches in the WWE with The Dudley Boys and the team of Edge and Christian, the two men have the ability to tear the house down if the opponents are up for the task. Richards and Edwards are two of the best workers in the sport right now, and this bout has all the earmarks of being an instant classic.
Hardy Talks About His Contract Status with TNA
Hardy is one of the most recognizable faces in all of wrestling. His run with the Willow gimmick was a great outlet of his unique personality, but TNA needs Hardy to continue selling merchandise and drawing fans to the product.
Possibly, yeah, I mean I’m locked in pretty much for two more years because I re-signed, and it’s up to TNA to keep me around. I’ll make that decision as we get closer to the time, but right now I pretty much have a dream job. I have a three year old daughter and I’m fortunate enough to be able to have this dream job and so much time at home each day with her and I take advantage of it. As long as I keep going now with this schedule, it’s perfect for me. As far as 5, 10 years down the road, I can’t say.
There is uncertainty around the long-term future of Impact Wrestling with Spike TV, but it is clear that the people in charge felt Hardy was one of the long-term answers for the company and ensured his contract reflected that.
With a family at home and a new perception of the business, Hardy is a positive contributor to the overall product and looks to be one of TNA’s ambassadors for the foreseeable future.
Hardy Still Eyes the TNA World Heavyweight Championship
A run with his brother Matt in a tag team is something the fans will enjoy witnessing, but Jeff is too gifted of a singles competitor not to be chasing TNA’s world title.
Hardy stole the show with Lashley in the main event for the world title in New York City two weeks ago. Regardless of who he squares off against in the future, he has the ability to steal the show every time he steps into the ring. This is another reason he has become so reliable for TNA and why fans gravitate toward him. Hardy always puts on a memorable show, which makes him a primary ambassador for TNA.
Hardy is still focused on singles gold, and he talked about winning another title while sharing how he wouldn’t mind going through Matt to win it again, via Arcidiacono:
Oh, for sure. That’s that feeling that never gets old and when you talk about holding onto something as long as you can. Whether I retire a year from now or not I would like to hold that title one more time and keep it until that point that breaks me, whatever it may be. I would love to end my career as World Champion. I can’t be Jeff Hardy without taking chances, if I feel like I do now, I’m going to keep going out there like I did against Bobby Lashley a few weeks ago. I’m going to go all out and go hard and go for it to win that title.
Oh my god, I would love it. I think it could be done so tasteful it would be insane in TNA. I would love that more than anything. I’d love to work Matt, especially for the world title, it would be so good.
In every company Hardy has wrestled for, he has deservedly been around the world heavyweight championship. It's clear Jeff isn't ready to relinquish his spot at the top and will eventually make it his No. 1 priority to win a seventh world championship.
With Hardy locked up long term with TNA, wrestling fans should expect to see him hovering around the world title scene for the rest of his tenure with the company. At least one more run with the heavyweight championship should be expected before Hardy’s career concludes.
