Miguel Cabrera Makes MLB History with 30 HR, 90 RBI Before All-Star Break

Whenever a player wins the MLB Triple Crown, it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that it took a career year to accomplish the feat. 

Someone forgot to tell Miguel Cabrera. 

The Detroit Tigers All-Star slugged his 30th home run on Thursday against the Chicago White Sox, setting a new record in the process.

SportsCenter's official Twitter account gives us the news:

Overall, he is now hitting an incredible .366/.457/.682 with 30 homers, 94 RBI and 71 runs scored. He leads the majors in average, on-base percentage, OPS, runs and RBI. In more than 2,900 fewer plate appearances, he has just 24 fewer home runs than the entire Miami Marlins team.

People often tend to refer to these as "video-game numbers." But man, if I could do what Miggy is doing in a video game, I would consider myself very lucky.

Last season, Cabrera hit .330/.393/.606 with 44 home runs and 139 RBI on his way to his first MVP award along with being the first person to win the Triple Crown in 45 years. Many believed that might be the best overall hitting display we would see for a long time, but the 30-year-old is somehow outdoing himself. 

If he continues his current blazing pace, he'll finish the season hitting .366 with 53 homers and 167 RBI. 

What makes this historic start even better is that Cabrera is going shot-for-shot with the Baltimore Orioles' Chris Davis.

The late-blooming 27-year-old, who looked like a bust early in his career, doesn't reach base quite as much as Cabrera, but after hitting another homer on Thursday, he now has 34 home runs to go with 86 RBI. 

If this keeps up, we are going to be in for a wild summer as Davis tries to get in the way of Cabrera's quest for a second straight Triple Crown.
