Steve Ott's faceoff methods are, well, unconventional.
In fact, you will even feel a whole lot better about the movie Face Off after you see the antics from the Buffalo Sabres star.
Deadspin spotted this video that features Ott and the Montreal Canadiens' Jeff Halpern locked in a fierce faceoff right before the third period.
OK, there is really nothing fierce about this particular moment. Things are fairly normal, which makes sense considering the Canadiens were up 4-0 at this point.
In an effort to win the puck drop with wild antics or to merely see what that delicious facemask tasted like, Ott does his best Michael Jordan impression and sticks out his tongue.
On second thought, it looks like Ott is going for his best Gene Simmons with this particular lick maneuver.
As Deadspin reminds, Ott is "eighth in the league in faceoff win percentage," so perhaps we need to bow before a true savant attempting to further his game to extreme levels.
Then again, maybe not, because Halpern would win the faceoff and the Canadiens would ultimately win the game 5-1.
I am not quite sure what Ott expects to do next. When you attempt to lick a player's face, you have pretty much reached the bottom of the bag of unnecessary tricks. We are entering a very special time in the sport, one that might lead to Baseketball-type psyche outs.
This should serve as a lesson to you would-be hockey stars facing off against the mighty Ott. Disregard that tongue or any other body part he might offer you; he is just trying to distract you from the task at hand.
Or he may find you delicious. Either way, ignore him.
