Nick Swisher Pitches Shutout Frame for the New York Yankees

6a00d83451b46269e201156f2446f4970c-250wi3While nothing seemed to go right for the New York Yankees on Monday night, their lone bright spot was a shutout inning thrown by Nick Swisher. In their 15-5 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, Swisher was asked to take the mound in the eighth inning and as it turns out, he was the only Yankee pitcher to not allow a run in the game. He also homered in the game.

The last time Swisher pitched was when he was a freshman in high school, according to Yahoo. “I had fun with it. When am I ever going to have a chance to do that again? Probably never. We know we didn’t play very well. Got to find something to laugh about in that moment. I just happened to be the guy.”

Swisher has always been a guy to find something to laugh about. He is a great presence in the clubhouse, and that is one of the benefits the Yankees saw in him this offseason. They saw him as a guy who could loosen up the clubhouse. He had a rough year with the White Sox last season, but he is on fire right now for New York. He is leading the team in average (.450), home runs (3), RBI (10) and now ERA (0.00).
