Mayweather vs. Cotto: Round-by-Round Predictions for Ferocious Fight
When Floyd Mayweather and Miguel Cotto step into the ring on May 5, 2012 you can be sure that they are both in for a ferocious fight.
Though it's tough to predict how any title fight will go down, I'll do my best to give you a round-by-round prediction of who is going to win and how he'll do it.
Round 1
Mayweather and Cotto both like to feel out their opponent first to determine how to set the pace and to find weaknesses.
The first round will be mild to start, with both fighters popping jabs and looking for some kind of opening. This will go on for a couple of minutes, but before the bell rings, Mayweather will take a few shots to the body as Cotto tries to establish dominance.
Cotto 10 Mayweather 9
Round 2
After getting punched in the gut a few times, Mayweather will be more cautious with his defense.
That being said, Money will start to go on the offensive, dealing a few straight rights to the jaw of Cotto and landing a couple of left hooks in the process.
Cotto will try to retaliate with an uppercut on a counter to Mayweather's straight right, but Money will be ready for it and hit him with left cross and send him to the mat.
Cotto will recover, though, and the round will end.
Mayweather 10 Cotto 8
Round 3
Mayweather will really start getting his groove on at this point, feeling confident while frustrating Cotto with his inability to land punches.
One of the things I predict is that Mayweather's defense will be too much for Cotto to overcome, and Round 3 is where we'll really start to see this come into full effect.
Mayweather won't be able to finish off Cotto for a while yet, but after the third round and a flurry of straight rights to Junito's jaw, Money will start to wear him down.
Mayweather 10 Cotto 9
Round 4
Cotto will make a minor comeback in Round 4. He has an excellent corner, and they will give him a few clues that will help him land some meaningful blows to the body of Mayweather.
After taking those shots, Mayweather will attempt to get Cotto off his back by landing some body shots of his own. Unfortunately, Cotto will not be fooled and will lay into him with a combo to the body and head, causing Mayweather to briefly lose his focus.
Cotto 10 Mayweather 8
Round 5
Mayweather will start to really wear down Cotto in the fifth round with body blows and a constant barrage of straight rights to his jaw.
This round belongs completely to Mayweather, and Cotto is ultimately saved from destruction by the merciful bell.
Mayweather 10 Cotto 8
Round 6
This is it.
Mayweather will earn a technical knockout in the sixth round on a flurry of combos, driving Cotto into the corner and finally pulverizing his opponent with a monstrous uppercut that will send him sprawling out onto the canvas.
Knockout for Mayweather in the sixth round.
