2011 Bowl Games: Predicting the Biggest Blowouts Before the New Year

Wes ODonnellDec 27, 2011

There are 15 bowl games left in the year 2011.

Many of them don't appeal to the masses the same way the post New Year's games do, but they do have a number of exciting reasons to watch.

Unfortunately, some of them will be blowouts, but that doesn't mean they're not worth watching though.

Here are the biggest blowouts in pre-New Year's games.

Valero Alamo Bowl - Baylor vs. Washington - Dec. 29

Heisman Trophy winner quarterback Robert Griffin III is ready to put on a monster showing in what could be his final collegiate game.

The Washington Huskies will be able to score some points, but they also give up 33 points per game. The Bears give up 35 points per game themselves, but played an infinitely more difficult schedule in the Big 12 than the Huskies of the Pac-12.

Points will come in bunches, but it will be the Bears that ultimately put this game away.

Insight Bowl - Oklahoma vs. Iowa - Dec. 30

The Sooners closed the season in disappointing fashion with three losses in their final six games.

The injury to Ryan Broyles was a big blow on the heels of the loss of Dominique Whaley, and it showed down the stretch.

And while Oklahoma has a few problems, they still have a ton of talent.

Quarterback Landry Jones is still one of the best in the country and without putting down the Hawkeyes too much, they're in for a rough one from a team that is going to want to send a message.

Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas - Texas A&M vs. Northwestern - Dec. 31

Texas A&M has a number of talented players and is one of the highest scoring offenses in the country.

Their problem is that they consistently give up leads in the second half and teams ultimately beat them.

Northwestern can score points, but they also give up nearly the same amount.

Aggies QB Ryan Tannehill is playing in his final college game and he's considered a potential first round pick; he'll show that on New Year's Eve.
