College Football Recruiting 2012: The Top 5 Under the Radar Recruiting Classes
When we look at recruiting, we tend to focus on the top 25 and top 10 all the way down to No.1. The sad thing is that many people think that when they a see a class ranked low, the class isn't any good.
These are just rankings for right now, folks, as classes have two, three and four years to develop and work out. I'm going to give you five classes I think are under the radar that are good classes right now and will be good classes in the future.
Here we go.
5. Kentucky
1 of 5Wildcat fans are scratching their heads in regards to this season, but Joker Phillips is showing he can recruit. Scout.com has Kentucky just outside the top 30 in recruiting class rankings right now.
Phillips has pounded the trail and gotten 25 commitments so far. Sure, there's no five-star player in this class, but Phillips has gone for depth and will rely on his staff to teach and develop this crop's talent.
4. Baylor
2 of 5The Bears are hot stuff right now thanks to RG3, and they've quietly enjoyed a solid recruiting cycle thus far. Art Briles has 19 commitments and two are four-star recruits in Corey Coleman and Aivion Edwards.
I also really like safety prospect Kiante Griffin. Naysayers were saying Baylor was done after RG3 leaves, but I have a feeling this class will help dispel that notion.
3. Vanderbilt
3 of 5The Commies have to credit James Franklin and his staff; winning six games at Vandy is almost like going undefeated these days.
Franklin has hit the recruiting trail hard and has radiated passion, energy and a "new car" type of feeling to the view of Vanderbilt football. The approach has netted him 21 commitments and two four-star recruits in Brian Kimbrow and Josh Dawson.
It's obvious Franklin wants to get a pass rush in the SEC, as he has six commitments from DE prospects inside this class. How wild would it be if he somehow landed Gunner Kiel?
2. Wisconsin
4 of 5The Badgers don't have many commitments (12), but they do boast seven four-star players, including OG Dan Voltz and QB Bart Houston.
Toss in good talent like RB Vonte Jackson, OLs Kyle Dodson and J.J. Denman and OLB Vince Beigel, and you see why this class should be pretty good.
Wisconsin has solid value in this class.
1. West Virginia
5 of 5WVU is under the radar, even though they are inside many top 25 rankings. I just think Dana Holgorsen has done a solid job this year, both on the field and with recruiting.
He holds 28 commitments and four are four-star recruits. Holgorsen has WVY also in the running for five-star ATH Cyrus Jones.
But in this class, I really dig OG Tyler Orlovsky, as I feel he has All Big East potential. Also watch out for WR Deontay McManus, LB Sam Lebbie and RB Albert Reid.
