Michael WhooleyJan 1, 2009

Just because the regular season in the NFL is over, it doesn't mean you can't play fantasy football. With that in mind, we started up a fantasy football playoff contest in which you can compete against the Bruno Boys staff for FREE PRIZES. The winner of the playoff contest will receive a $25 gift card of their choice, while second place will receive a $15 gift card of their choice, and third place will receive a $10 gift card of their choice.

To enter the contest, just click here... FANTASY FOOTBALL PLAYOFF CONTEST (Password is BRUNO).

To help the Bruno Boys Nation win FREE PRIZES, we bring to you the Wild Card Round Kicker Rankings.

1. David Akers (Philadelphia Eagles) @ Minnesota

When looking for a kicker for the fantasy football playoff contest you might not have to look any further then Philadelphia Eagles kicker David Akers. He finished the season extremely strong, scoring 14 points in a Week 17 blowout of the Dallas Cowboys that landed the Eagles in the playoffs.

Akers scored eight or more points in four of his last five games and should find plenty of success this week as the Eagles travel to Minnesota to play the Vikings in the Metrodome.

Point Projection: 10 points

--------------------

2. Jason Elam (Atlanta Falcons) @ Arizona

Many people wrote off Jason Elam this year when he left kicker friendly Denver to go play for the rebuilding Atlanta Falcons. What a difference 17 weeks of football can make.

Elam went from an afterthought to one of the top kickers in the league. He did not have a lot of huge games, but he was one of the most consistent kickers on a weekly basis as he hit 29 of 31 field goal attempts on the season.

A first-round playoff matchup between the Falcons and Cardinals should be a fun game with a lot of scoring and Elam should benefit from it with a double-digit kicking performance.

Point Projection: 10 points

--------------------

3. Matt Stover (Baltimore Ravens) @ Miami

The Baltimore Ravens were another surprise team this season. A new coach and a rookie quarterback really changed the fortunes of this team. Most of the season you would find Matt Stover’s name near the bottom of the Bruno Boys Kicker Rankings, but as we stated last week it’s time to give him some credit.

Stover finished the season with two or more field goals made in five of his last six games. He should be in line for another multiple field goal game as the Ravens travel to Miami to face the Dolphins.

Point Projection: Nine points

--------------------

4. Nate Kaeding (San Diego Chargers) vs. Indianapolis

San Diego struggled to find consistency in their offense this season and it affected Nate Kaeding numbers. He still managed to make 27 of 32 field goal attempts on the season with 46 extra points. The Chargers caught fire to end the season with four straight wins as the offense returned to form.

Kaeding is once again a solid kicking option and should post good numbers as the Chargers host the Colts in the first round of the playoffs.
Point Projection: Nine points

--------------------

5. Ryan Longwell (Minnesota Vikings) vs. Philadelphia

Ryan Longwell started the season like the rest of the Minnesota Vikings, with high hopes. He had a bit of an up and down season, but he was clutch when his team needed him.

Longwell hit both of his field goal attempts Week 17 including a 50-yarder to end the game, which gave Minnesota the NFC North title and a playoff berth. Look for another solid outing from Longwell this week as the Vikings host the Eagles.
Point Projection: Eight points

--------------------

6. Adam Vinatieri (Indianapolis Colts) @ San Diego

Adam Vinatieri did not have the best season of his career, but let’s face it, this is a guy who set high standards for himself early in his career. That being said he only managed to score in double figures three times this season, which is a far cry from seasons past.

Vinatieri did finish the season strong converting all three field goal attempts Week 17 to go with two extra points. Vinatieri has been a top-notch playoff kicker over his career and there is no reason to believe anything will change this season.
Point Projection: Eight points

--------------------

7. Neil Rackers (Arizona Cardinals) vs. Atlanta

Neil Rackers was not the top-10 kicker many experts thought he would be this season as he only managed 119 points. The problem was not because he was not accurate it was more to do with the Cardinals offense being extremely efficient.

Rackers converted 25 of 28 field goal attempts to go with 44 extra points this season and should have a solid game in what should be a high scoring affair between the Cardinals and Falcons.

Point Projection: Seven points

--------------------

8. Dan Carpenter (Miami Dolphins) vs. Baltimore

Dan Carpenter put together a solid rookie campaign. He made 21 of 25 field goal attempts on the season and added 40 extra points. The Dolphins had an amazing worst to first turn around this season, but they did get probably the toughest defensive matchup in the playoffs as they host the Baltimore Ravens.

This could be the lowest scoring game of Wild-Card Weekend and it should affect Carpenter’s numbers.

Point Projection: Seven points
