Michigan Football Recruiting: Talented OLs Will Boost Wolverines Rushing Attack

Patrick ClarkeDec 22, 2011

The Michigan Wolverines are poised to carry on a dominant rushing attack under Brady Hoke next year and for years to come with the addition of several talented offensive lineman in 2012.

The Wolverines ranked 12th in the nation in 2011 in rushing yards, averaging better than 235 yards on the ground per game.

The vicious attack, led by junior quarterback Denard Robinson and sophomore running back Fitzgerald Toussaint, amassed more than 2,800 total rushing yards in 2011, and should improve upon that next year.

Five-star prospect Kyle Kalis has committed to Michigan as the Wolverines only five-star commit thus far in recruiting.

Kalis is a 6'5", 302-pounder out of Lakewood, Ohio, and will likely find himself in the mix right away on Michigan's offensive line, which will only wave goodbye to two seniors this season.

Kalis is the No. 1 rated OL in Ohio and ranked No. 21 nationally according to rivals.com.

Blake Bars is another talented lineman that the Wolverines will look to put in front of Toussaint next season, as well as Robinson, if he bypasses the NFL draft for his senior year.

Bars is a super athletic offensive lineman, weighing 275 pounds and standing 6'5". According to rivals.com, Bars is the ninth-highest ranked OL in the state of Tennessee.

Both Kalis and Bars will add to a youthful offensive line that is among the scariest in the Big Ten.

Four-star prospect Erik Magnuson will also make the journey to Ann Arbor, Michigan this coming fall. The 6'6", 275 pound OT out of California is among the top OL in the state and even cracked rivals' Top 50 nationally.

For a team that will be content to run the football down the opposition's throat and play excellent defense in the coming seasons under Hoke and first-year defensive coordinator Greg Mattison, these recruits will do wonders.

It all starts up front with the big uglies—that's where Michigan won this season and where they will continue to win in the future.
