2011 Bowl Schedule: BBVA Compass Bowl and Games That Have No Appeal
There are a lot of bowl games that at first look you are immediately drawn into the game.
However, there are a lot of bowl games that draw no interest or appeal, like the BBVA Compass Bowl between the SMU Mustangs and Pittsburgh Panthers.
BBVA Compass Bowl: Pittsburgh Panthers vs. SMU Mustangs
The Pitt Panthers and the SMU Mustangs come into the BBVA Compass Bowl as two teams that ranked in the bottom half of the NCAA in rushing yards and points scored.
Both of these teams had disappointing seasons, with SMU finishing with the better record of 7-5 to Pitt’s 6-6.
Both of these quarterbacks had equal touchdown-to-interception ratios this season. SMU’s J.J. McDermott threw 16 touchdowns and 16 interceptions, while Pitt’s Tino Sunseri threw 10 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
This is going to be an ugly game, with a final score of 13-10 or 17-14.
Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl: Mississippi State Bulldogs vs. Wake Forest Demon Deacons
This game features not only two teams that finished 6-6 on the year, but also teams that rank in the bottom half of the NCAA in total offense and average points per game.
Not only do these teams struggle to score points, but each of these teams also has a hard time at either passing or running the ball. Miss. State ranked 91st in the NCAA in passing this year, averaging 200 yards per game, while Wake Forest ranked 96th in rushing yards, averaging 119 per game.
Both of these teams come into this bowl game losing two out of their last three games.
Mississippi State was blown out by Alabama, 24-7, and Arkansas, 44-17. While Wake Forest was blown out at home by Vanderbilt, 41-7.
Belk Bowl: Louisville Cardinals vs. North Carolina State Wolfpack
If you love high-scoring games and offenses that can move up and down the field, then the Belk Bowl is not the game for you.
This year, Louisville was one of the worst offensive teams in college football. They ranked 104th in total yards, 74th in passing yards, 94th in rushing yards and 103rd in average points per game.
While Louisville was awful, North Carolina State wasn’t that much better.
This year, NC State finished 94th in total yards, 46th in passing yards, 109th in rushing yards and 41st in average points per game.
They only scored more than 30 points six times this year, while giving up 25 points per game.
The Belk Bowl will be a low-scoring, bad offensive game that will be very hard to watch.
Whatever you do, please stay away from these games. They will be boring and very hard to watch.
Hopefully for you, there will be something else better for you to do instead of wasting three-and-a-half hours watching one of these bowl games.
