Reflecting on the 10 Most Frustrating Players in Fantasy Football

Brian LendinoDec 22, 2011

With the 2011 fantasy football season drawing to a close, we'll begin to reminisce on the ups and the downs of the season.

Players like Antonio Brown, Reggie Bush and Victor Cruz surprised us all with breakout seasons. But who didn't show up?

Whether their seasons were marred by injury or just inconsistent play, here are the 10 most frustrating players in fantasy football this season.

Andre Johnson, Houston Texans

1 of 10

Andre Johnson is widely believed to be the best wide receiver in the NFL and in most cases was the No. 1 drafted wide receiver in fantasy football.

However, his 2011 season headlines a lingering hamstring injury that has kept him out of eight games thus far this season.

Even when Johnson suited up, he only amassed 100 yards once and scored only two touchdowns, leaving his owners scrambling for permanent replacements.

We can only hope that the hamstring will heal up in time for the Texans playoff run, but for his fantasy owners, having to manage an entire season without one of their first two picks has to be as frustrating as anything.

Michael Vick, Philadelphia Eagles

2 of 10

All I'm saying is that Matthew Berry is really regretting having Michael Vick as his No. 1 overall player in all of fantasy football.

Vick's season has been one of injuries, and even when he has been healthy, he's rarely played up to the expectation we had for him.

He's turned the ball over multiple times on five different occasions. This season isn't what the Eagles had in mind, and the fact that the offense works best when Vick hands off to LeSean McCoy is a major reason why Vick owners are beating themselves up at this point in the season.

Rashard Mendenhall, Pittsburgh Steelers

3 of 10

Rashard Mendenhall had a very productive 2010 where he found the end zone 13 times and rushed for almost 1,300 yards, leading many people to boast him as a top fantasy back for 2011.

Mendenhall hasn't lived up to expectation by only amassing 100 yards once this season and is still in the single digits in touchdowns with eight.

As someone who took a shot on Mendenhall in his own league, it's safe to say that Mendenhall has been one of the bigger frustrations in all fantasy football this season.

Dwayne Bowe, Kansas City Chiefs

4 of 10

All you have to do is compare Dwayne Bowe's touchdown numbers from 2010 and now in 2011 to see that his fantasy value has not been good.

I understand that 15 touchdowns is lofty for any receiver, but four is just terrible for a No. 1 receiver, especially when the team's leading rusher goes down with injury.

Not to mention he hasn't hit the 100-yard mark since Week 5.

Dwayne Bowe has been a fantasy disappointment for those who took chances on him high, looking for similar production.

Philip Rivers, San Diego Chargers

5 of 10

Many thought of Philip Rivers as a legitimate MVP candidate this season, but his inability to protect the football has made him a fantasy frustration while his team has struggled to a 7-7 record.

Now even though he has passed the 4,000 yard mark he has thrown multiple interceptions in seven games this season.

He has produced but not to the level we know he's capable of, making him a frustration to the majority of his fantasy owners.

Chris Johnson, Tennessee Titans

6 of 10

Has there been a bigger disappointment in 2011 than Chris Johnson?

I think we all know what the answer to that is and it's pretty conclusive. Chris Johnson has been downright awful this season.

Chris Johnson has failed to pass 25 yards on five different occasions and has only scored four touchdowns all season.

The worst part is when he looks like he's going to break out and show up this season, he follows up with huge let down games of 23 and 55 yards.

I'd go on, but I know I'd just continue to disappoint you.

DeSean Jackson, Philadelphia Eagles

7 of 10

DeSean Jackson has not only felt the repercussions of Michael Vick's struggles but also the pressures of playing for a new contract.

In 2011 the big plays just have no been there that we're normally used to from Jackson and the Eagles offense and his three touchdowns are far under what we would like as a fantasy owners.

The Eagles struggles as the so called "Dream Team" have been well documented all season, and DeSean Jackson's have been at the forefront of all the criticism.

Darren McFadden, Oakland Raiders

8 of 10

Darren McFadden has looked like the exciting, explosive running back we thought he would be.

When he's been on the field, I mean.

Most people expected 2011 to be McFadden's breakout season but a foot injury has changed the tune of that song dramatically and it's now looking like Run-DMC's season is done.

He hasn't played since Week 7, leaving many of his fantasy owners searching for long-term replacements that didn't put up near the production of McFadden.

Stevie Johnson, Buffalo Bills

9 of 10

Stevie Johnson had a breakout 2010 and opened a lot of eyes to how skilled he really was, and could be in 2011.

While he's shown glimpses of being a star, he has multiple games with less than four receptions and has only found the end zone six times.

He's not a No. 1 option in fantasy football but he is the No. 1 on his team and I would expect more consistent production from a player like Johnson throughout the course of 16 games.

He's been a headache for me and I know I'm not alone.

Jamaal Charles, Kansas City Chiefs

10 of 10

I just feel bad for Charles owners in 2011 because really, who saw it coming?

It hurts more because he was taken in the first five picks in almost every league and then blew out his knee in the second week of the season.

I guarantee he would have had a monster year if not for the injury, but other than that, there's just not much consoling I can do here.

He hurt me too.
