NBA Trade Rumors: Impact Players Whose Salaries Make Them Surprisingly Available
As all of the major free agents have signed, some teams still have holes. These teams may have to look to fill those holes through trades.
Here is a short list of NBA veterans who could be extremely valuable as a trade piece.
Mo Williams, LA Clippers
With all of the moves that the Clippers have made, they now have a log jam at point guard. Mo Williams is the most expendable of the bunch, and he also carries the highest value.
Williams has a player option for next year, but is making a manageable $8 million this year.
He was a bit hurt by the Chris Paul acquisition, but he understood. Still, he seems like a great trade piece for the Clippers to add front court depth or another shooting guard.
Kirk Hinrich, Atlanta Hawks
Kirk is a hard-nosed defensive player, decent ball handler and great shooter. He can play either guard spot, defending both equally. Hinrich is also making $8 million per year, and he will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year.
Jeff Teague looks to be the point guard of the future in Atlanta, so it would make Hinrich expendable, but the Hawks would probably need to add a backup, unless they trust Jannero Pargo with those duties.
Hinrich represents an expiring contract and immediate help. Those two factors are especially valuable to contenders. Hinrich is currently recovering from an injury.
Courtney Lee, Houston Rockets
Lee is a good all-around player, very much in the mold of the late Bobby Phills. He is also set to be a free agent at the end of the season. The Rockets need a center badly, even after signing Samuel Dalembert, and there were some rumors that they were in talks with the Bulls about Omer Asik.
Lee would be a nice commodity to dangle to acquire that center, as the Rockets already have Kevin Martin at the two-guard.
Ahh..trade talk that doesn't include you-know-who from Orlando.
