Floyd Mayweather: Twitter Reacts to Money's 3-Month Prison Sentence
Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is going away for a while.
According to various reports (see ESPN.com), Mayweather has been sentenced to 90 days in prison after pleading guilty to a charge of misdemeanor battery domestic violence and no contest to two counts of harassment. He will also have to complete 100 hours of community service and pay a $2,500 fine.
The charges stem from a 2010 argument between Mayweather and his ex-girlfriend, during which he assaulted her and threatened their two children.
The news has taken the Twitterverse by storm. Mayweather's name is one of the top trending topics on Twitter, and everyone and anyone has something to say about his sentencing.
Let's take a look at some of the very best tweets.
Plenty of people are curious about how Mayweather's sentencing will affect his boxing career, and there's one thing many have pointed out.
I'll let ESPN.com's Dan Rafael explain:
This is true. With Mayweather behind bars until April, the fabled May 5 date for a potential super-fight with Pac-Man is now no longer a possibility. Whether or not it ever was is open for debate, of course.
With that in mind, plenty of people have taken to trolling. Take a look around Twitter and you'll see a lot of tweets like this one:
And one more for good measure:
Those who have seen the movie Half Baked will enjoy this fine example of trolling:
Others aren't quite ready to troll Mayweather, but they are questioning how he chooses to blow off some steam.
I'll let Fox anchor Alan Lee explain:
This guy agrees, albeit in a slightly more angry manner:
Slightly less outrageous is the fact that the justice system is making Mayweather pay a $2,500 fine. That's not that much money for a man of his means, and this guy didn't mind pointing that out:
As far as what comes next for Mayweather, Peyton's Head has a typically ingenious idea:
Ah yes, that's actually hilarious.
Believe it or not, at least one guy is thinking seriously about the future. That would be Yahoo! Sports' Dan Wetzel, who has it all mapped out:
Maybe so, Wetzel. Maybe so.
Then again, Wetzel's other idea would probably work just as well. In fact, it may be more realistic:
Before signing out, I'll let this guy leave you with one last thing to ponder:
If so, my mind will be totally blown.
Stay tuned for more, folks. Plenty more where these came from.
