Floyd Mayweather to Serve 3 Months in County Jail
Boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather, Jr. will be behind bars very shortly.
Via ESPN.com's Dan Rafael, here's the latest news regarding Mayweather's most current legal predicament:
According to the Associated Press, Mayweather must also complete 100 hours of community service and pay a $2,500 fine after pleading guilty to reduced battery domestic violence and harassment charges stemming from a 2010 incident between him and his ex-girlfriend.
Per the USA Today, Mayweather was expected to be fined about $3,000 and sentenced to up to 18 months in prison after pleading guilty on Wednesday.
The 34-year-old Mayweather had been facing felony charges for allegedly hitting and threatening his ex-girlfriend in September of 2010, simultaneously stealing her cell phone and threatening their two children, who were 10 and nine years old at the time. The story goes that Mayweather confronted her because he believed she was dating another man.
He would have been facing up to 34 years in state prison had those charges actually gone to trial.
Shortly thereafter in November of 2010, Mayweather got in trouble with the law again after allegedly threatening and assaulting a security guard outside his Las Vegas home. Per SI.com, the plea deal Mayweather agreed to called for him to plead no contest to misdemeanor battery charges for that incident. He would then pay a $1,000 fine.
Mayweather was last seen in the ring in September, defeating Victor Ortiz via a controversial fourth-round knockout to win the WBO welterweight title. He has yet to be defeated in 42 professional bouts.
