LSU vs Alabama Rematch: 5-Star Recruits Both Schools Are Vying For

Randy ChambersDec 21, 2011

Whether you like the national championship rematch, you can't deny that these two teams are extremely talented.

There's a reason both of these two SEC powerhouses are always in the hunt for championships and always ranked highly in the rankings. One of the main reasons is because they both recruit extremely well. As of right now, they are both ranked in the top 10 for this year's recruiting class.

LSU and Alabama will compete on the field to be crowned this year champion, but they are also competing against each other on the recruiting side as well.

Here are some of the top uncommitted recruits that have both of these teams on their list.

DE Channing Ward

1 of 5

Channing Ward has cut his list real short, and two of those schools that are still on it are Alabama and LSU. The interesting thing as that he has visited with Auburn and LSU and says his mind is already made up. Despite the fact that he still has visits scheduled with Mississippi State, Alabama and Ole Miss. He also said he isn't sure he'll continue all three of those visits.

Is he just having fun with the media, or his mind really made up after visiting just two schools?

A decision is expected at the Under Armour All-American game.

LB Kwon Alexander

2 of 5

Kwon Alexander is arguably the top outside linebacker prospect in the country, and he could really add depth to either one of these ridiculous defenses.

Many expect the 5-star recruit to either pick Alabama or Auburn, but you can't count out LSU, which is another school he made an official visit to.

It's going to be really interesting to see where this linebacker ends up as a decision is expected soon.

QB Gunner Kiel

3 of 5

Quarterback Gunner Kiel originally committed to Indiana but backed out as he wanted to explore more of his options that he had available. He has everything you look for in a quarterback, including pinpoint accuracy and underrated mobility.

Vanderbilt and Notre Dame are heavy favorites for the recruit, but Alabama and LSU are also in the mix.

Whichever team is able to get the top quarterback prospect will have a great quarterback that could possibly lead it to another national championship.

WR Dorial Green-Beckham

4 of 5

Green-Beckham is one of the top wide receiver prospects I have seen in a while, as his upside is absolutely off the charts. This 5-star recruit is 6'6", 220 pounds. It doesn't matter who your quarterback is, just throw the ball up and he will go get it.

He just now beginning his recruiting visits, and although Texas and Missouri are favorites to land him, he does have a visit scheduled with the Crimson Tide. LSU has extended an offer as well.

If one of the teams from the SEC West land Green-Beckham, it will instantly become the favorite to win that division. Yes, he's that good.

S Landon Collins

5 of 5

Landon Collins is one of the top safety prospects in the country and is guaranteed to end up on one of these teams real soon. He has cut down a list that included Auburn, Florida and Miami, among other schools, to just Alabama and LSU.

He will make his decision on Jan. 5 at the Under Armour All-American game.

Collins will be representing his new team on the sidelines, and whichever team lands the top safety will have won before the game even started.
