Marshall vs. FIU Brawl Video: Watch Ugly Ending to Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl
There was a sloppy conclusion to the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl between Marshall and Florida International last night.
Things got chippy at midfield in the closing seconds of a 20-10 Thundering Herd victory.
It was a product of two teams playing hard past the final whistle and eventually coming to blows.
As you can see, a Golden Panthers receiver caught a meaningless pass but refused to go down, and the Herd defender would not relent on his tackle.
A few other players joined in the scrum, and it took an ugly turn.
One of the FIU players was tossed to the ground and then punched hard in the chest before rolling over onto his back.
Shoves broke out all around and it looked like an all-out war between the two schools was about to happen.
Luckily, responsible players, coaches and officials got between the troublemakers and broke it up before any other major attacks could be launched.
It was a stupid way for one of the Marshall players to close a season that ended on a positive, bowl-winning note.
Marshall coach Doc Holliday tried to downplay the incident. When asked about the scuffle that just took place, he said,
"“Oh, our kids are just excited, you know these kids know each other from high school, they play against each other all the time.”
"
He continued on without mentioning the fight whatsoever and either chose to try and bury it as quickly as possible, or just plain didn’t see it after their thrilling victory.
Both sides are lucky things didn’t get any worse, but you can expect the NCAA to dole out a harsh punishment for the Marshall defender who threw a punch and dirtied up what was a clean game up until the end.
