Tim Tebow Saturday Night Live Skit Is Harmless, so Why Is Pat Robertson Angry?
People are taking this whole Tim Tebow thing way too seriously. Whether arguing for or against his abilities as a quarterback at the pro level, or discussing how often he brings up religion, people seem to get far too personal in their attacks on both sides.
This weekend Saturday Night Live featured a skit in which Jesus visited the Denver Broncos' locker room and implored them to play better so he didn't have to do so much work in guiding them to victory. Tebow was portrayed by Taran Killam almost as a love-sick teenager fawning all over Jason Sudeikis' Jesus.

It was a completely harmless, mildly funny take on a popular topic. So it was the exact sort of thing that SNL has done for years.
Televangelist Pat Robertson took exception to the skit and called it "anti-Christian bigotry that is just disgusting." Since Mr. Robertson is widely considered a nut-job, I pretty much ignored his ridiculous statement. But apparently it has sparked a debate about the way people treat Christianity in this country.
Frankly, I like Tebow and think he's a good kid. But honesly, the skit was nothing to get upset over. It was a play on the fact that players often thank God after games, Tebow was just the target because he has been in the news lately thanks to "miracle" wins.
I didn't see it as a targeted attack on him personally, more the general idea that God has any interest in seeing one team or another come away with a win in a sporting event. Again, this was harmless fun, not bigotry.
It makes absolutely no sense to get upset or bent out of shape over it.
