Georgia Football: 7 Players the Bulldogs Will Miss the Most

Brian JonesDec 20, 2011

This is always a tough time for college football fans.

With bowl season beginning, it not only means that the season is coming to an end, it also means that some of the players who the fans enjoyed watching will move on to hopefully better things.

That is no different with the Georgia Bulldogs, who have a few players that will be either graduating or moving on to the NFL.

Here’s a look at the seven players the Bulldogs will miss the most.

The Bulldogs offensive line is the biggest in all of college football and the NFL. That will change next year; Ben Jones, Cordy Glenn and Justin Anderson will no longer wear the red and black.

Jones has been the team’s best offensive lineman, and according to the players as well as the coaches, he was the team’s MVP this season. Jones has been a consistent player, and his leadership skills have been off the charts.

Glenn is not far behind Jones when it comes to talent. Glenn, who was a consensus All-SEC player this season, has all the tools to be a very successful tackle in the NFL. He was dominant when he played on Saturdays, and there is no reason he can’t do the same thing on Sundays.

Anderson started all 13 games at tackle and was solid. He actually played nose tackle last year because of his size, but his natural position is offensive line, and he thrived once he got going.

There is no question that the Bulldogs are losing some key players on offense. But the defense will also lose a couple key players that were instrumental to the team’s success.

The first is Brandon Boykin, who has been one of the better cornerbacks and return specialists in the conference the last couple of years. Boykin was a second-team All-SEC selection by the coaches, as well as Phil Steele, and was a finalist for the Paul Horning Award. He was also named as one of the defensive captains when the season came to an end.

Another defensive player that will be missed is DeAngelo Tyson, who really came into his own at the defensive-end spot. The senior from Statesboro tallied 20 tackles and 11 quarterback pressures in 11 starts. He was the recipient of the team’s Coaches Leadership Award for defense.

So we covered offense as well as defense. But who are the players from special teams that will be missed the most?

If you follow the Bulldogs, you know that Blair Walsh and Drew Butler are seniors and will be missed just as much as any other Bulldog that is moving on.

Walsh had a down year, but he will still go down as one of the best kickers in SEC history. Walsh holds the NCAA record for making a field goal in 44 consecutive games and is ranked second in SEC and NCAA history with 404 points.

Butler won the Ray Guy Award in 2009 and was a finalist in 2010 for being the nation’s most outstanding punter. 2011 was also a down year for Butler, but he will go down as one of the best to ever play the position.
