College Football Recruiting: Picking Schools for Top Skill-Position Prospects
With the college football season coming to a close, it's about that time to look forward to the recruiting process. Which top players are going where and which teams can land the most impressive young talent?
Many of the top players have already decided which school they will be playing for, but there are still quite a few that still can't make up their minds. Some either still need to make a few visits, others need to see who the coach will be and others are leaving it a secret until we can't take it anymore.
Since there are still great players out there that can't make up their minds, I'm here to help.
Here are the predictions for where the top remaining skill-position players will end up.
WR Cyrus Jones
1 of 9Considering: Alabama, Auburn, Virginia Tech, Florida, Notre Dame and Penn State, among others
Where he'll end up: Alabama
The Crimson Tide are the team Jones has been interested in the most and was the first school he visited. Jones could compete for quality playing time the minute he steps on the Alabama campus. He will make his decision at the Under Armor All-American game, January 5.
CB Tracy Howard
2 of 9Considering: Florida State, Florida, LSU, USC and Alabama
Where he'll end up: Florida State
Howard is a Florida boy, so it's only natural that both the Gators and the Seminoles are the front-runners to landing this top cornerback. The reason I have Florida State the favorite for now is because of the questions the Gators have at offensive coordinator.
S Nelson Agholor
3 of 9Considering: USC, Oklahoma, Notre Dame and Florida
Where he'll end up: Florida
Agholor is from Tampa, so the Gators have the advantage in this one. However, every school is still in the running for the five-star safety. He recently took a trip to the University of Florida and it appears that they are the favorites for now.
S Landon Collins
4 of 9Considering: Alabama and LSU
Where he'll end up: LSU
It's down between these two schools, and he'll make his decision January 5 at the Under Armor All-American game. It could really go either way but Collins is from Louisiana, so I give the Tigers the advantage in this one.
S Shaquille Thompson
5 of 9Considering: Washington, California, Arizona State, Notre Dame and Oregon
Where he'll end up: California
Thompson is already familiar with California considering he is from there. I think he'll stay at home and add to the great recruiting class the Golden Bears were able to put together this season. Look out for this team in the Pac-12 because they're coming along quite nicely.
QB Jameis Winston
6 of 9Considering: Florida State, Alabama and Auburn
Where he'll end up: Florida State
Winston has a verbal commitment with Florida State, but Alabama has jumped in the mix and has caught the dual-threat quarterback's attention. I still think he'll stay with the Seminoles, as the team gives him a better opportunity to start right away. He'll make his decision on or around national signing day.
QB Gunner Kiel
7 of 9Considering: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, LSU, Missouri, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Vanderbilt
Where he'll end up: Notre Dame
The top quarterback prospect in the country will likely make his decision next month, and I see him joining the Irish. Right now it's really too good to pass up—a prestigious program that doesn't really have a legitimate answer at the quarterback position. Kiel has the opportunity to step in and become the starter sooner than later.
WR Stefon Diggs
8 of 9Considering: Auburn, California, Florida, Michigan, Oklahoma, USC, Virginia and Virginia Tech
Where he'll end up: Michigan
Diggs appeared to be heading to Florida but with the loss of offensive coordinator Charlie Weis, he has backed out. I see him heading to Michigan to fulfill one of the top recruiting classes in the country. The Wolverines have a lot to offer and his playmaking ability would really complete one of the most talented teams in the country.
WR Dorial Green-Beckham
9 of 9Considering: Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, LSU, Missouri, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas and USC, among others
Where he'll end up: Texas
Some of the top wide receivers to go to the NFL lately have come out of the Big 12. He'd be joining a talented, young team that appears to be on the rise after two sub-par seasons. It's also not that far away from his home in Missouri.
He's expected to visit the Longhorns soon and should make his decision soon thereafter.
